Yahya Abdul-Mateen II Cast In Upcoming Matrix Film

Since the surprise announcement in August that The Matrix is indeed being rebooted for a fourth movie from returning writer-director Lana Wachowski, it’s been all quiet on the simulated-universe front – but now it seems the continuation of the sci-fi saga has found one of its leading stars. According to Variety, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II –perhaps best known for playing Black Manta in Aquaman – has been cast as one of the central figures of the new Matrix movie, set to join Keanu Reeves and Carrie-Anne Moss on screen.

Abdul-Mateen’s character hasn’t been confirmed, but early rumors around the film suggested that it could focus on a young Morpheus – such is the malleable nature of The Matrix’s continuity. Whether that’s the case or not is one to file firmly in 'wait and see'. Beyond Aquaman, Abdul-Mateen was recently seen in Jordan Peele’s Us, playing Adelaide’s father in the opening scene. He’s also appeared in The Handmaid’s Tale and Black Mirror, and will soon be seen in HBO’s new take on Watchmen.

Winona Ryder- An "Alienation" Expert? We're halfway checked out for the holiday weekend, so let's end with bit of comedy. A litigious videogame player is calling Winona Ryder to testify as an expert in "alienation." Erik Estavillo has filed a $1 million lawsuit in California Superior Court against Activision Blizzard, publisher of "World of Warcraft," saying it "maintain(s) a harmful virtual environment to many of its customers by forcing them to follow the game's sneaky and deceitful practices." The plaintiff says he suffers from several mental health problems brought on by WoW's "alienating" features, such as forcing beginners to walk or run to get from one point to another instead of speedier options available to those who master the game or buy an expansion pack.
