BOB MARLEY: ONE LOVE Featurette

Gemma Arterton Is Set To Star In "She Who Brings Gifts"

Writer M. R. Carey has a portfolio that takes in a wealth of comic-books, including Lucifer for DC Vertigo and X-Men and Fantastic Four for Marvel, as well as a sci-fi horror novel, The Girl With All The Gifts. It’s the latter that today’s news concerns: it’s being adapted for the big screen as She Who Brings Gifts with Gemma Arterton, Glenn Close and Paddy Considine all aboard.

Director Colm McCarthy, best known for his TV work on Sherlock and Peaky Blinders, has tapped up the trio to inhabit a world ravaged by an infection, Ophiocordyceps unilateralis, that’s reduced a large chunk of humanity to ravenous creatures called 'Hungries’. The surviving uninfected have built safe havens to avoid being turned into hungries canapé. One of them, ten-year-old Melanie, has been captured and is being studied by captors intrigued by her genius-level IQ.

Runs the enigmatic synopsis: "Every morning, Melanie waits in her cell to be collected for class. When they come for her, Sergeant Parks keeps his gun pointing at her while two of his people strap her into a wheelchair. She thinks they don't like her. She jokes that she won't bite. But they don't laugh. Melanie is a very special girl.”

She Who Brings Gifts shoots in the UK in May with Camille Gatin and ’71 man Angus Lamont producing. “It’s hugely exciting to combine Mike Carey’s truly original script and Colm McCarthy’s dynamic yet sensitive style with such a terrific cast,” say Gatin. Joss Whedon fans take note. The Avengers man is a big fan of the novel, describing it as “heartfelt, remorseless and painfully human… as fresh as it is terrifying. A jewel."

Winona Ryder- An "Alienation" Expert?

Winona Ryder- An "Alienation" Expert? We're halfway checked out for the holiday weekend, so let's end with bit of comedy. A litigious videogame player is calling Winona Ryder to testify as an expert in "alienation." Erik Estavillo has filed a $1 million lawsuit in California Superior Court against Activision Blizzard, publisher of "World of Warcraft," saying it "maintain(s) a harmful virtual environment to many of its customers by forcing them to follow the game's sneaky and deceitful practices." The plaintiff says he suffers from several mental health problems brought on by WoW's "alienating" features, such as forcing beginners to walk or run to get from one point to another instead of speedier options available to those who master the game or buy an expansion pack. Estavillo says that the slow pace is "deceitful" because more time = more subscription revenue for Activision. Here's where Winona Ryder comes...

Sex Tape Review: Overly Sexual, Rude, Vulgar, and Absolutely Hilarious

The raunchy Sex Tape will divide audiences and critics, but who cares? Sex Tape suggests a growing practice among loving partners: that of making a raunchy testament of their escapades for posterity. But what happens when that evidence gets seen by friends, neighbors, and even the mailman? This is the plot that pits Jay (Jason Segel) and Annie (Cameron Diaz) in an effort to secure every iPad gift Jay has given, his record company playlists being the envy of the recipients, but which has also inadvertently spread the video to every device. The reason for the act - termed in the movie as pulling "the full Lincoln " for its three-hour length - stems from the couple's non-existent social life, brought on by the constant demands of their children. The couple has a lot to lose: a burgeoning business relationship between Annie and Hank (Rob Lowe) could end if the iPad she's given to Hank exposes the video, and so the couple sets out to reclaim and wipe the incrim...
