BOB MARLEY: ONE LOVE Featurette

Bridesmaids Melissa McCarthy To Star In "Tammy"

New Line has preemptively acquired Melissa McCarthy’s script Tammy, a raunchy comedy that the Emmy winner co-wrote and will executive produce. McCarthy could also star in the road trip pic.

The project centers on an overweight woman who is laid off from her job at Hardee’s, discovers her husband is having an affair, and decides to go on a road trip with her alcoholic, foul-mouthed, diabetic grandmother. The script is based on a character created by McCarthy.

“It’s about these two women who are not where they thought they would be, and then they kind of band together,” McCarthy told The Hollywood Reporter of the project last month. “It’s just my perfect tone. It’s so funny, and it also kind of breaks my heart.”

The news comes some six months after McCarthy’s breakout performance in Universal’s Bridesmaids. In the months since, the comedienne-actress has hosted a highly-rated episode of Saturday Night Live, won an Emmy for CBS’ Mike & Molly and sold a comedy project about a woman having a mid-life crisis to CBS.

In addition to being in negotiations to star opposite Jason Bateman in Identity Thief, McCarthy and Bridesmaids writer Annie Mumolo are co-writing another McCarthy star vehicle set up at Paramount. The project will feature McCarthy as the mastermind of a plan to hijack the Stanley Cup in order to cheer up her sick husband.

She is also set to appear in Bridesmaids producer Judd Apatow’s still-untitled Knocked Up spin-off, along with director Paul Feig’s Dumb Jock project at Universal.

Sex Tape Review: Overly Sexual, Rude, Vulgar, and Absolutely Hilarious

The raunchy Sex Tape will divide audiences and critics, but who cares? Sex Tape suggests a growing practice among loving partners: that of making a raunchy testament of their escapades for posterity. But what happens when that evidence gets seen by friends, neighbors, and even the mailman? This is the plot that pits Jay (Jason Segel) and Annie (Cameron Diaz) in an effort to secure every iPad gift Jay has given, his record company playlists being the envy of the recipients, but which has also inadvertently spread the video to every device. The reason for the act - termed in the movie as pulling "the full Lincoln " for its three-hour length - stems from the couple's non-existent social life, brought on by the constant demands of their children. The couple has a lot to lose: a burgeoning business relationship between Annie and Hank (Rob Lowe) could end if the iPad she's given to Hank exposes the video, and so the couple sets out to reclaim and wipe the incrim...

Winona Ryder- An "Alienation" Expert?

Winona Ryder- An "Alienation" Expert? We're halfway checked out for the holiday weekend, so let's end with bit of comedy. A litigious videogame player is calling Winona Ryder to testify as an expert in "alienation." Erik Estavillo has filed a $1 million lawsuit in California Superior Court against Activision Blizzard, publisher of "World of Warcraft," saying it "maintain(s) a harmful virtual environment to many of its customers by forcing them to follow the game's sneaky and deceitful practices." The plaintiff says he suffers from several mental health problems brought on by WoW's "alienating" features, such as forcing beginners to walk or run to get from one point to another instead of speedier options available to those who master the game or buy an expansion pack. Estavillo says that the slow pace is "deceitful" because more time = more subscription revenue for Activision. Here's where Winona Ryder comes...
