Rise Of The Planet Of The Apes iPhone And iPad App

On behalf of 20th Century Fox, we are pleased to announce the launch of the official Rise Of The Planet of the Apes app for the iPhone and iPad.

The free app poses an intriguing question: are you smarter than an ape? Based on an actual intelligence test done at Kyoto University, it parallels the central storyline of the new studio’s upcoming film, in which a scientist’s tampering with the laws of nature leads to the development of superior intelligence in apes and the onset of a war for supremacy.

NEW ‘RISE OF THE PLANET OF THE APES’ iPhone / iPad APP ASKS:
ARE YOU SMARTER THAN AN…APE?

LOS ANGELES, (July 6, 2011) – 20TH Century Fox have released a new app for the iPhone and iPad that poses an intriguing question: are you smarter than an ape? The app is based on an actual intelligence test done at Kyoto University (http://news.nationalgeographic.com/news/2007/12/071203-AP-chimp-memory.html), and parallels the central storyline of the new studio’s upcoming film “Rise of the Planet of the Apes,” in which a scientist’s tampering with the laws of nature leads to the development of superior intelligence in apes and the onset of a war for supremacy.

The test is as simple as it is revealing: the numbers 1-9 appear on the screen in random positions, and then are quickly covered. You must remember their positions, and then touch the squares in numeric order, in order to pass to the next round. A number is added for each round, so after several rounds recreating their proper positions becomes quite a challenge – for humans, that is. Studies show that young chimps outperform adult humans in this memory test. “We were very surprised to find this,” Tetsuro Matsuzawa of the Primate Research Institute at Kyoto University said. “But it’s a very concrete, simple fact. Young chimps are superior to human adults in a memory task.”

To play the app, you must first select one of three skill levels – “Easy,” “Hard,” and “Ape” – which determine how long the numbers are displayed. The most difficult level, “Ape” mimics the speed a typical primate can accomplish the task.

In addition to the game, the app offers access to the latest content about “Rise of the Planet of the Apes,” including the theatrical trailer, movie tickets (when available), and the “Apes Will Rise” YouTube channel. You can also learn more about the history of the tests that measured apes’ surprising intelligence.

The app will be available for free download on iTunes beginning Thursday July 7th, 2011. For more information about the app visit http://www.apeswillrise.com/app/

Winona Ryder- An "Alienation" Expert?

Winona Ryder- An "Alienation" Expert? We're halfway checked out for the holiday weekend, so let's end with bit of comedy. A litigious videogame player is calling Winona Ryder to testify as an expert in "alienation." Erik Estavillo has filed a $1 million lawsuit in California Superior Court against Activision Blizzard, publisher of "World of Warcraft," saying it "maintain(s) a harmful virtual environment to many of its customers by forcing them to follow the game's sneaky and deceitful practices." The plaintiff says he suffers from several mental health problems brought on by WoW's "alienating" features, such as forcing beginners to walk or run to get from one point to another instead of speedier options available to those who master the game or buy an expansion pack. Estavillo says that the slow pace is "deceitful" because more time = more subscription revenue for Activision. Here's where Winona Ryder comes...

Sex Tape Review: Overly Sexual, Rude, Vulgar, and Absolutely Hilarious

The raunchy Sex Tape will divide audiences and critics, but who cares? Sex Tape suggests a growing practice among loving partners: that of making a raunchy testament of their escapades for posterity. But what happens when that evidence gets seen by friends, neighbors, and even the mailman? This is the plot that pits Jay (Jason Segel) and Annie (Cameron Diaz) in an effort to secure every iPad gift Jay has given, his record company playlists being the envy of the recipients, but which has also inadvertently spread the video to every device. The reason for the act - termed in the movie as pulling "the full Lincoln " for its three-hour length - stems from the couple's non-existent social life, brought on by the constant demands of their children. The couple has a lot to lose: a burgeoning business relationship between Annie and Hank (Rob Lowe) could end if the iPad she's given to Hank exposes the video, and so the couple sets out to reclaim and wipe the incrim...
