Natalie Portman To Star In Best Buds A Stoner Comedy

Natalie Portman To Star In Best Buds A Stoner Comedy

Natalie Portman and her production company, Handsome Charlie Films, are currently searching for a director to helm Best Buds, a stoner road comedy Portman is producing and set to star in. The independently financed comedy is said to be in the vein of Harold and Kumar and Half-Baked and will center on two best female friends who take a road trip to their friend’s wedding in order to save her by bringing her weed.

Portman has been consistent in recent years with her script choices, regularly alternating big-budget fare with independent projects. She started her own production company in order to field more scripts suited to her tastes, and she’s already got Hesher (with Joseph Gordon-Levitt) ready for theaters (it debuted at Sundance), and it’s her production company that’s also moving forward with Pride and Prejudice and Zombies, which is expected to come after she finishes filming Thor. Best Buds would line up well following Zombies, after which she has no other go projects.

Best Buds also seems well suited to the marketplace rife with road-trip comedies (The Hangover, the upcoming Due Date) and stoner comedies (Pineapple Express and Portman’s own Your Highness), and it would be nice to see a female-driven stoner comedy, for a change. Note, also, that this is not a remake of the Cheech & Chong film of the same name.

Newly developed Vendome Pictures, co-producing Best Buds.

Sex Tape Review: Overly Sexual, Rude, Vulgar, and Absolutely Hilarious

The raunchy Sex Tape will divide audiences and critics, but who cares? Sex Tape suggests a growing practice among loving partners: that of making a raunchy testament of their escapades for posterity. But what happens when that evidence gets seen by friends, neighbors, and even the mailman? This is the plot that pits Jay (Jason Segel) and Annie (Cameron Diaz) in an effort to secure every iPad gift Jay has given, his record company playlists being the envy of the recipients, but which has also inadvertently spread the video to every device. The reason for the act - termed in the movie as pulling "the full Lincoln " for its three-hour length - stems from the couple's non-existent social life, brought on by the constant demands of their children. The couple has a lot to lose: a burgeoning business relationship between Annie and Hank (Rob Lowe) could end if the iPad she's given to Hank exposes the video, and so the couple sets out to reclaim and wipe the incrim...

Winona Ryder- An "Alienation" Expert?

Winona Ryder- An "Alienation" Expert? We're halfway checked out for the holiday weekend, so let's end with bit of comedy. A litigious videogame player is calling Winona Ryder to testify as an expert in "alienation." Erik Estavillo has filed a $1 million lawsuit in California Superior Court against Activision Blizzard, publisher of "World of Warcraft," saying it "maintain(s) a harmful virtual environment to many of its customers by forcing them to follow the game's sneaky and deceitful practices." The plaintiff says he suffers from several mental health problems brought on by WoW's "alienating" features, such as forcing beginners to walk or run to get from one point to another instead of speedier options available to those who master the game or buy an expansion pack. Estavillo says that the slow pace is "deceitful" because more time = more subscription revenue for Activision. Here's where Winona Ryder comes...
