BOB MARLEY: ONE LOVE Featurette

Cowboy & Aliens Movie Review By: CubicleMike

Cowboy & Aliens Movie Review By: CubicleMike I want to welcome CubicleMike to the mix over here at SandwichJohnFilms. The Cube will be doing reviews from time to time for the site.  Here's his first review for the site and let me tell you there are SPOILERS ! You have been Warned! The title holds so much promise; “ Cowboys and Aliens ”. Who in their right mind, if you are male, didn’t play Cowboys and Indians when they were a kid or imagined stopping an invading hoard of aliens? Let me start by saying the main character (Jake Lonergan) in this film was supposed to be played by Robert Downey Jr .; but he had to drop out due to scheduling conflicts, I guess we will never know what may have been. The film starts out panning across what seems like the Arizona or New Mexico wilderness where our hero has been dumped or fell to exhaustion. Amnesiac Daniel Craig (Jake Lonergan) wakes up with no shoes, blood on his shirt with no food, water or even a horse. I think Daniel Cr

Daniel Craig To Star In Cowboys and Aliens

Daniel Craig To Star In Cowboys and Aliens As we wrote before that Dainel Craig may star in the upcoming film. It has been confirmed he will star in the movie. Daniel Craig has closed his deal to star in Cowboys and Aliens for DreamWorks and Universal, as I predicted. Craig will star in an adaptation of Fred Van Lente's graphic novel that was published by Platinum Studios and revolves around cowboys and Native Americans who put aside their Old West differences to battle invading aliens. Craig will play the lead cowboy Zeke Jackson, replacing Robert Downey Jr who exited to jump right back to the Sherlock Holmes sequel. While he likely won't identify himself as "Jackson, Zeke Jackson," Craig has put himself in an enviable position: Cowboys and Aliens has franchise potential. And it will keep him busy while the James Bond/MGM situation plays out. Brian Grazer is producing with Ron Howard, Steven Spielberg, Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci, and Platinum Studios' Scott

Daniel Craig The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo

Daniel Craig To Star In The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo Daniel Craig has closed his deal to play journalist Mikael Blomkvist in The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo , a deal which factors in options for two sequels based on The Girl Who Played With Fire, and The Girl Who Kicked The Hornets' Nest. The novels comprise the bestselling trilogy by late Stieg Larsson. Deadline told you first about the Craig talks, which back in June were hardly a certainty, because there were so many hurdles to jump. I'm told that with a whole lot of juggling between three studios, Craig will be able to make the movies. Essentially, he will begin work on the first film in Sweden, as soon as he removes his cowboy hat from shooting Cowboys and Aliens in the early fall. Scheduling was coordinated between Dragon Tattoo-maker Sony Pictures Entertainment, DreamWorks partners Stacey Snider and Steven Spielberg--who were flexible on the Cowboys and Aliens schedule--and James Bond rights holders Barbara Brocc

Who Is The Man In The Shadow From Cowboys & Aliens?

Who Is The Man In The Shadow From Cowboys & Aliens? Director Jon Favreau who’s about to film the adaptation Cowboys & Aliens, recently tweeted this image, which didn’t show much. Part of camera tests, showing a sihouette of some dude standing, with a very bright backlight, he’s obviously in costume but no one knows who that was. Jon talked to Collider at a recent screening of Empire Strikes Back that in deed it was film star Daniel Craig. Favreau: I know, if you look at him, we just did our camera tests. That’s him. On the Twitter pic? That’s him. We couldn’t really show too much because he didn’t want to reveal any images on Twitter but I wanted to kind of get a sense of the feel of it. He’s also somebody who plays an iconic figure that has a long tradition. So to have him playing a cowboy, I feel very good now having shot him and worked with him and hearing his thoughts. And the whole cast is great. With each person we add, the enthusiasm grows, with Rockwell and

The Lone Ranger Is A Disaster At The Box-Office

The mega-budget " The Lone Ranger " went down in a cloud of a dust in its box-office debut over the July 4 weekend, saddling the studio with a " John Carter "-sized disaster. Over the five-day holiday weekend, the masked rider will have brought in around $49 million . That's about $20 million under analysts' projections and nearly $90 million behind the total of the No. 1 movie, Universal and Illumination Entertainment's animated family film " Despicable Me 2 ." The Lone Ranger Review - Worse, the $29.4 million three-day Friday-Sunday total for the $225 million adaptation of the classic radio and TV show, with Armie Hammer as the title character and Johnny Depp as Tonto, was weaker than that of last year's bomb " John Carter ." That $250-million sci-fi adventure opened to $30.1 million, topped out at $73 million at the domestic box office and Disney wound up with a $200 million write down. It's hard to imagine

Jon Favreau to Direct Magic Kingdom For Disney

Jon Favreau Got His Mickey Ears On Jon Favreau is in talks to direct Magic Kingdom , the Disney film with the premise that the attractions at the venerable theme park come to life. The studio set the project up nearly two years ago and got a draft by Battlestar Galactica's Ron Moore, but a new writer will be set and work on a new draft under Favreau.  Favreau will be signing a development deal, because the project will percolate while he works on other big scale studio films. He just completed Cowboys & Aliens , the DreamWorks/Universal co-production that stars Daniel Craig and Harrison Ford . Favreau will finish that film for release on July 29, 2011, and he is expected to re-team with Robert Downey Jr . for a third Iron Man . Magic Kingdom is being produced by Strike Entertainment partners Marc Abraham and Eric Newman, and while the studio has previously tapped theme park attractions for films like Pirates of the Caribbean , this is the first time it has created a movie

Robert Downey Jr Will Not Be John Favreau's Cowboy

Robert Downey Jr Will Not Be John Favreau's Cowboy The actor, who had been poised to reunite with "Iron Man" director Jon Favreau for the science-fiction western "Cowboys & Aliens," won't star in the film. The movie, sources s ay, will still move forward with Favreau. But Downey has fallen off the project, and studio DreamWorks is seeking a new hero to replace him. Production is tentatively set to begin this year for a planned release in summer 2011. Originally a serialized graphic novel, "Cowboys & Aliens" focuses on outer-space creatures who land in Arizona circa the mid-19th century intent on enslaving the local population -- until a group of cowboys and Apache Indians fight back. (There was a further Iron Man connection to "Cowboys:" writers Mark Fergus and Hawk Ostby wrote an original draft of the script.) Downey was set to play the gunslinger Zeke Jackson, who leads the anti-alien revolt. But scheduling issues -- Downey

Cowboys & Aliens Barely Top The Smurfs At The Box Office.

UPDATED: ' Cowboys ' grosses $36.4 million, while ' Smurfs ' earns $35.6 million. I'm sure  Favreau is re relieved  to hear this news. A race that riveted Hollywood into the early hours of Monday, Cowboy & Aliens has pulled ahead of dark horse The Smurfs to win the weekend box office race. On Sunday, Sony put Smurfs’ projected weekend at gross at $36.2 million—identical to the estimated gross of DreamWorks and Universal’s Cowboys. Both films dropped roughly 23% on Sunday, making the race impossible to call Sunday evening. Rival studios showed both films grossing roughly $35.6 million. But by midday Monday, Universal put Cowboys' opening at $36.4 million, compared to $35.6 million for Smurfs. Box office insiders said there was a problem with reporting for some AMC theaters, explaining why Cowboys' number can in higher than expected. While that’s a win for Jon Favreau’s Cowboys, Smurfs is still the big victor of the weekend. Heading into the
