Actor Liam Neelson is quoted at The Daily Blam, commenting on Christopher Nolan's upcoming film The Dark Knight Rises (2012). Will Neelson appear in the movie? Anything can happen, but it's less than a rumor at this point and we did see Ra’s Al Ghul die in Batman Begins (2005).
Neelson's character gave us a possible hint in Batman Begins as quoted from IMDb:
Bruce Wayne: You're not Ra's al Ghul. I watched him die.
Henri Ducard: [from behind Bruce Wayne] But is Ra's al Ghul immortal?
[Bruce turns around to face Ducard]
Henri Ducard: Are his methods supernatural?
In the Batman animated series, Ra's al Ghul is an immortal, or at least a very long lived being, thanks to the dubious benefits of the Lazarus Pits. Take a dip in one of those and, if it doesn't kill you, you'll live longer...a lot longer.
The question is, will Nolan choose to employ this bit of the Batman legend in his latest film?
It's only the rumor that Marion Cotillard will be playing Talia al Ghul in TDKR that suggests that her father could also return. Frankly, there's so much up in the air about this movie right now, that I wouldn't count on any rumor being set in cement.
But Liam Neelson is a fabulous actor and his portrayal of Ra's al Ghul, though quite different from the animated character, was extremely compelling. I was a little disappointed that Batman Begins presented the al Ghul legend but didn't explore his immortality. Nolan has the opportunity to include it here. Will he?
