BOB MARLEY: ONE LOVE Featurette

Marvel's "The Inhumans" Film Could Be On The Way

How cosmic is the Marvel Movieverse getting? The studio is now developing The Inhumans for the big screen.

The Inhumans are a fictional race of superhumans, created by Stan Lee and Jack Kirby. This race appears in various comic book series published by Marvel Comics and exist in that company's shared universe, known as the Marvel Universe.

The comic book series of this name have usually focused more specifically on the adventures of the Inhuman Royal Family, and so many people associate the name "Inhumans" with this particular team of super-powered beings. (However, recent series have looked at the "new generation" of the Inhuman society.)

The Inhumans first appeared in Fantastic Four #45 (December 1965), though members Medusa and Gorgon appeared in earlier issues of the series (#36 and #44, respectively). Their home, the city of Attilan, was first mentioned years earlier, in a "Tuk the Caveboy" story written and drawn by Jack Kirby that appeared in Captain America Comics #1, 1941. The city was described as the home of a race that was evolutionarily advanced when human beings were still in the caveman era.

The Inhumans are ruled by a royal family, headed by Black Bolt, who never speaks because the sound of his voice is wildly destructive. There’s a whole motley group of them, and they even have a big mutant spacedog named Lockjaw.

The Inhumans are high level cosmic wackiness in the Marvel Universe. We’re talking Rome meets Star Wars meets The X-Men. The film would be a ‘team’ story, and it sounds like some of the details may be changed for the movie version. According to It’s On The Grid, the film would be about

Aliens who were put on Earth as sleeper cell aliens to eventually call back their race to take over the planet. Ultimately, the group of aliens fully assimilates and don’t want to cause war.

The project is out to writers, with no release date set. While I’m not psyched about that logline (although it could be dumbed down), it’s intriguing to see that Marvel is going so big in their post-Avengers movieverse. Everybody who thought we’d be getting nothing but Luke Cage and Moon Knight type street level superheroes – you were wrong.

By the way: could we be seeing The Inhumans getting introduced in The Avengers? It makes some sense that Marvel would be laying the groundwork in a movie that will already be dealing with an alien invasion.

Naked Gun Reboot On It's Way

If you've seen Naked Gun - or The Naked Gun: From The Files Of Police Squad ! to give its full title - you'll know that it's a comedic masterpiece that springboards off astonishing levels of silliness and random spoofery. Leslie Nielsen's Frank Drebin is a loveable buffoon for the ages, even when he's discussing his dicky prostrate. Do not, however, expect the Ed Helms -starring reboot to adopt exactly the same tack. According to Naked Gun director/co-writer David Zucker, talking up Airplane!'s screening at Nashville's Wild West Comedy Festival, the new version will not attempt to hit the same spoofy sweet spot as the Zuckers and Jim Abrahams' 1988 comedy. "It won’t be like the Naked Gun that I did," Zucker revealed. "It may be good, but it won’t be that kind of movie. They’re going to use the title. They asked me if I wanted to produce. They’re nice people, but they don’t want to do that style of spoof that I do." One departure
