Charlize Theron To Produce "The Clan" For ABC

Charlize Theron is preparing to tell a Viking drama.

The actress-producer has sold The Clan to ABC, marking the Oscar winner's third sale this development season, The Hollywood Reporter has learned exclusively.

The Clan is described as a sweeping drama set in the Highlands of medieval Scotland, where the great clans battle one another -- and the Viking invaders. Hotel Rwanda writer-director-producer Terry George -- who picked up a writing Oscar nomination for the Don Cheadle starrer -- is on board to write, direct and executive produce the project.

Theron will exec produce through her ABC Studios-based Denver & Delilah shingle. The sale marks the Monster actress' latest move this development season and first at ABC. She's also attached to executive produce a modern-day take on Hatfields & McCoys with Eagle Eye's John Glenn and family drama Holiday with Californication's Gina Fattore, both set up at NBC.

Theron has been an active producer, with credits including features Young Adult, Sleepwalking and Monster. She has a handful of features in development as well as a small-screen effort -- Mind Hunter, with David Fincher -- in development at HBO. On the big screen, Theron is in preproduction on Mad Max: Fury Road and in talks to produce and potentially star in a drama about slain war reporter Marie Colvin.

Leslie Nielsen's Frank Drebin is a loveable buffoon for the ages, even when he's discussing his dicky prostrate. Do not, however, expect the Ed Helms -starring reboot to adopt exactly the same tack. According to Naked Gun director/co-writer David Zucker, talking up Airplane!'s screening at Nashville's Wild West Comedy Festival, the new version will not attempt to hit the same spoofy sweet spot as the Zuckers and Jim Abrahams' 1988 comedy. "It won’t be like the Naked Gun that I did," Zucker revealed. "It may be good, but it won’t be that kind of movie. They’re going to use the title. They asked me if I wanted to produce. They’re nice people, but they don’t want to do that style of spoof that I do." One departure
