BOB MARLEY: ONE LOVE Featurette

Crazy Rich Asians Rules The Box Office

Turns out the giant shark was no match for a roaring tiger. After one week at the top of the US box office charts, The Meg lost its spot to new arrival Crazy Rich Asians, which opened to a $25.2 million weekend, according to studio estimates.

And that was just the three days, as the new movie actually opened Wednesday, earning $34 million in total, ahead of expectations. Yet Warner Bros. won't be too unhappy, since the studio owns both the top two movies. The Meg may have sunk to second place, but it took in $21.1 million and has earned more than $83 million in a couple of weeks.

Third place went to the second new arrival, the latest Mark Wahlberg/Peter Berg team-up Mile 22, which took in a slightly lacklustre $13.6 million. That was still enough to open ahead of fellow launch Alpha, with the wolf pic sinking its teeth in $10.5 million in fourth. All that new arrival action meant Mission: Impossible – Fallout was pushed down to fifth, though it's a close run thing as it also earned $10.5 million.

Christopher Robin fell to sixth on $8.8 million, with BlacKkKlansman adding a few screens yet still slipping a couple of places to seventh and $7 million. In eighth, horror movie Slender Man crept off with $4.9 million, with Hotel Transylvania 3 treading water at ninth and $3.6 million. Finally, in 10th, we find Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again, which added $3.3 million to its US total, which currently stands at $111.2 million.

Naked Gun Reboot On It's Way

If you've seen Naked Gun - or The Naked Gun: From The Files Of Police Squad ! to give its full title - you'll know that it's a comedic masterpiece that springboards off astonishing levels of silliness and random spoofery. Leslie Nielsen's Frank Drebin is a loveable buffoon for the ages, even when he's discussing his dicky prostrate. Do not, however, expect the Ed Helms -starring reboot to adopt exactly the same tack. According to Naked Gun director/co-writer David Zucker, talking up Airplane!'s screening at Nashville's Wild West Comedy Festival, the new version will not attempt to hit the same spoofy sweet spot as the Zuckers and Jim Abrahams' 1988 comedy. "It won’t be like the Naked Gun that I did," Zucker revealed. "It may be good, but it won’t be that kind of movie. They’re going to use the title. They asked me if I wanted to produce. They’re nice people, but they don’t want to do that style of spoof that I do." One departure
