BOB MARLEY: ONE LOVE Featurette

Jumanji Sequel To Square Off Against Star Wars Episode IX

The end of Star Wars’ current trilogy has long been pencilled in for a December 2019 release — an immovable object in the blockbuster landscape. But J.J. Abrams’ return to the galaxy far, far away is about to face some unexpected competition in the form of an unstoppable force: Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson.

Following the huge success of Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle, which currently sits at a box office total of just under $1 billion worldwide, it looks like a third Jumanji film will be coming to the big screen in — you guessed it — December 2019. Speaking at CinemaCon in Las Vegas, Sony Pictures chairman Tom Rothman said: "I'd bet on seeing Dwayne Johnson in theaters again in December 2019. Don't rush to give all those screens to Star Wars.”

Despite an opening weekend of $36 million in the US, Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle went on to gross $404 million in the States alone. Of course, the Star Wars team won’t be too worried — even with Jumanji and The Greatest Showman proving robust competitors in December, and despite that fan backlash, The Last Jedi still went on to score $1.3 billion worldwide. And expect anticipation to be even higher for Episode IX, what with it being the closing chapter of the current Skywalker trilogy.

Naked Gun Reboot On It's Way

If you've seen Naked Gun - or The Naked Gun: From The Files Of Police Squad ! to give its full title - you'll know that it's a comedic masterpiece that springboards off astonishing levels of silliness and random spoofery. Leslie Nielsen's Frank Drebin is a loveable buffoon for the ages, even when he's discussing his dicky prostrate. Do not, however, expect the Ed Helms -starring reboot to adopt exactly the same tack. According to Naked Gun director/co-writer David Zucker, talking up Airplane!'s screening at Nashville's Wild West Comedy Festival, the new version will not attempt to hit the same spoofy sweet spot as the Zuckers and Jim Abrahams' 1988 comedy. "It won’t be like the Naked Gun that I did," Zucker revealed. "It may be good, but it won’t be that kind of movie. They’re going to use the title. They asked me if I wanted to produce. They’re nice people, but they don’t want to do that style of spoof that I do." One departure
