ABOUT FILM SPARK:
ASU Film Spark is an unprecedented program at the intersection of the entertainment industry and academia with three primary goals:

1) CAREER ACCELERATOR to help ASU students and alumni in entertainment.
2) INNOVATION HUB to create a better industry, culture and society.
3) SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA OUTREACH ARM to deepen ASU connections with the alumni, prospective students, entertainment companies and others in the region.

Film Spark, started by ASU film professor Adam Collis, began as a simple video-conference with a filmmaker that grew into a mission to connect ASU with the best filmmakers and executives in the world. Since then Professor Collis has connected ASU students with four Oscar-winners, five Oscar-nominees, three studio chiefs, the presidents of the Academy and the Directors Guild, as well as numerous blockbuster producers and award-winning directors. Film Spark’s Feature Film Internship Initiative also gave eighty-five ASU students and fifteen recent alumni the chance to learn filmmaking on an actual feature film set with an Oscar-winning cast and crew.

Recognizing the extraordinary value being delivered to ASU students, President Crow worked with Dean Steven Tepper of the Herberger Institute for Arts and Design to establish Film Spark as a formal program, which fully launched in January of this year out of ASU’s California Center in Santa Monica.

Naked Gun Reboot On It's Way

If you've seen Naked Gun - or The Naked Gun: From The Files Of Police Squad ! to give its full title - you'll know that it's a comedic masterpiece that springboards off astonishing levels of silliness and random spoofery. Leslie Nielsen's Frank Drebin is a loveable buffoon for the ages, even when he's discussing his dicky prostrate. Do not, however, expect the Ed Helms -starring reboot to adopt exactly the same tack. According to Naked Gun director/co-writer David Zucker, talking up Airplane!'s screening at Nashville's Wild West Comedy Festival, the new version will not attempt to hit the same spoofy sweet spot as the Zuckers and Jim Abrahams' 1988 comedy. "It won’t be like the Naked Gun that I did," Zucker revealed. "It may be good, but it won’t be that kind of movie. They’re going to use the title. They asked me if I wanted to produce. They’re nice people, but they don’t want to do that style of spoof that I do." One departure
