BOB MARLEY: ONE LOVE Featurette

#Supergirl Gets Picked Up For 7 More Episodes

The network has ordered seven more episodes of the DC comics adaptation, bringing the show's freshman season to 20 episodes. Supergirl's flight is far from over.

CBS has ordered seven more episodes of the DC Comics adaptation, The Hollywood Reporter has learned.

The order brings Supergirl's freshman season to a total of 20 episodes. Although it's slightly less than the normal 22, the freshman drama debuted a month later than most other new fall offerings. Supergirl also requires more special effects than the average series.

The network's sign of confidence comes a month after Supergirl launched to a 3.1 rating among adults 18-49 and 12.9 million viewers — making it the most-watched premiere of the fall season. The series also tied with NBC's Blindspot for the highest-rated debut of the fall. Supergirl is currently averaging a 2.8 rating.

The series marked a big leap for CBS as the only comic book-inspired series on the network's slate. However, CBS is hardly the first network to borrow from comic books for hit series. ABC has found success with Marvel's Agents of SHIELD and Agent Carter, as has The CW with Arrow and The Flash. Meanwhile, Fox boasts Gotham.

In other respects, however, the series is right in line with outgoing Entertainment chairman Nina Tassler's quest for more dramas with strong female leads to follow in the footsteps of series like The Good Wife, Madam Secretary and CSI: Cyber.

The series stars Glee alum Melissa Benoist as Kara Zor-El, who was born on Krypton but has been hiding the powers she shares with her famous cousin since arriving on Earth. But now at age 24, she decides to embrace her superhuman abilities and be the hero she was always meant to be. Calista Flockhart, Mehcad Brooks, Chyler Leigh, Jeremy Jordan and David Harewood also star.

Supergirl's full-season order is just the latest victory for executive producer Greg Berlanti, whose freshman drama Blindspot has already earned a season two renewal at NBC. Berlanti also has Arrow, Flash and the upcoming Legends of Tomorrow spinoff at The CW, and NBC's Debra Messing drama Mysteries of Laura.

Berlanti exec produces with Ali Adler (No Ordinary Family), Andrew Kreisberg (Arrow) and Sarah Schechter. His banner, Berlanti Productions, also produces the series in association with Warner Bros. Television.

On CBS, Supergirl follows Limitless, Life in Pieces and Code Black in getting full-season pickups. Like Supergirl, CBS strayed from the standard back-nine pickup on the latter, opting to instead order five more episodes.

Naked Gun Reboot On It's Way

If you've seen Naked Gun - or The Naked Gun: From The Files Of Police Squad ! to give its full title - you'll know that it's a comedic masterpiece that springboards off astonishing levels of silliness and random spoofery. Leslie Nielsen's Frank Drebin is a loveable buffoon for the ages, even when he's discussing his dicky prostrate. Do not, however, expect the Ed Helms -starring reboot to adopt exactly the same tack. According to Naked Gun director/co-writer David Zucker, talking up Airplane!'s screening at Nashville's Wild West Comedy Festival, the new version will not attempt to hit the same spoofy sweet spot as the Zuckers and Jim Abrahams' 1988 comedy. "It won’t be like the Naked Gun that I did," Zucker revealed. "It may be good, but it won’t be that kind of movie. They’re going to use the title. They asked me if I wanted to produce. They’re nice people, but they don’t want to do that style of spoof that I do." One departure
