George Miller Promises Another 'Mad Max' Movie

The director Tweets out thanks and a promise that has the Internet swooning.

If the stunning success and critical love which Mad Max: Fury Road has received since its release wasn't enough to prove that the nearly 40-year-old franchise is still alive and kicking, then the following bit of news is merely the proof fans have been waiting for. In the typical interview roundabout that actors and directors go on to press their newest film, Actor Tom Hardy had stated several times that he's actually singhed to play the titular anti-hero for two more films. But without a guarantee as to whether anyone would care to see the fourth installment of the post-apocalyptic grit-fest, that promise was mostly rang empty.

Until today.

Miller, the mind behind the mayhem, tweeted out the following this afternoon, conmfirming that another Mad Max is alrwady in the works:

In addition to that news, Miller had stated in a recent podcast that the title of the fifth film would be Mad Max: The Wasteland. Now, Hardy's promise can be fulfilled; in Fury Road, he takes over Mel Gibson’s role as Max Rockatansky, the former police officer who ventures out into the Australian wasteland as a sort of Man With No Name. Fury Road's success - due mainly to Hardy and Charlize Theron - has mixed violent car crashes with a tight and effective story about uneasy relationships that are built to end the tyranny of warlord Immortan Joe (XX). Miller had originally wanted to shoot two films back to back, but a number of issues plagued production, making it impossible to achieve with Fury Road.

Fury Road took home a very respectable $45.4 million domestically and another $64m worldwide. While there's no official word when shooting might commence, fans of the series have to be breathing a sigh of relief that more films are indeed coming.
