BOB MARLEY: ONE LOVE Featurette

Updated Marvel/DC/Fox Comic Book Film Timeline

Here's how the biggest entertainment news of 2015 affects the next five years.

Story by Matt Cummings

If you're feeling a little shell-shocked over the huge news about Spider-man finally joining the MCU, get in line. These days, comic book news is hitting us faster than a punch from The Flash and harder than The Hulk. With word reaching us about Spider-man, the entire Marvel release schedule has been upended, but it's also left a high-profile release completely off the list. Truth is, every Sony Pictures production of a Spider-man related property is now off the books, replaced with what appears to be a single universe shared between Sony and Marvel.

But, we'd be in error if we didn't mention that there's still other comic book universes out there, starting with your friends at DC. Batman vs Superman: Dawn of Justice is happening next year, and DC themselves are moving forward with a huge slate of films, both team-ups and individual stories. Meanwhile, Fox is moving ahead with its mutant franchise, recently inking a deal to bring Patrick Stewart to the upcoming Wolverine movie, and Ian McKellan will return in X-Men: Apocalypse.

So, how does recent news about Spider-man affect the 40-film timeline? We've updated (again) the list to reflect what we believe to be the correct slate of films, and have removed now-defunct projects like Drew Goddard's Sinister Six:

Sex Tape Review: Overly Sexual, Rude, Vulgar, and Absolutely Hilarious

The raunchy Sex Tape will divide audiences and critics, but who cares? Sex Tape suggests a growing practice among loving partners: that of making a raunchy testament of their escapades for posterity. But what happens when that evidence gets seen by friends, neighbors, and even the mailman? This is the plot that pits Jay (Jason Segel) and Annie (Cameron Diaz) in an effort to secure every iPad gift Jay has given, his record company playlists being the envy of the recipients, but which has also inadvertently spread the video to every device. The reason for the act - termed in the movie as pulling "the full Lincoln " for its three-hour length - stems from the couple's non-existent social life, brought on by the constant demands of their children. The couple has a lot to lose: a burgeoning business relationship between Annie and Hank (Rob Lowe) could end if the iPad she's given to Hank exposes the video, and so the couple sets out to reclaim and wipe the incrim...
