Sam Worthington To Play Dan Dare. UK Buck Rogers

Sam Worthington To Play Dan Dare. UK Buck Rogers

Sam Worthington to play Dan Dare in an upcoming film based on comic strips since 1950; created by Frank Hampson, he’s also the most successful comic property in the history of the UK. He’s often described as the British Buck Rogers and is meant to look like the British Army type.British sci-fi comic property acquired by Virgin Comics (and Richard Branson) a few years ago.

Dan Dare is a British science fiction comic hero, created by illustrator Frank Hampson. Hampson not only invented Dan Dare and his entire world, he also put together the original team of artists and wrote the first two stories. Dan Dare appeared in the Eagle comic story Dan Dare, Pilot of the Future in 1950, dramatised 7 times a week on Radio Luxembourg.

The stories were set in the late 1990s but the dialogue and manner of the characters is reminiscent of British war films of the 1950s. Dan Dare has been described as "Biggles in Space" and as the British equivalent of Buck Rogers. Dan Dare was distinguished by its long, complex story lines, snappy dialogue and meticulously illustrated comic-strip artwork by Hampson and other artists, including Harold Johns, Don Harley, Bruce Cornwell, Greta Tomlinson, Frank Bellamy and Keith Watson.

Currently, one new Dan Dare publication is available. A recently completed mini-series of Dan Dare has been launched by Virgin Comics. It is written by Garth Ennis and illustrated by Gary Erskine and is a completely new and somewhat darker intrepretation of Dan Dare.

Naked Gun Reboot On It's Way

If you've seen Naked Gun - or The Naked Gun: From The Files Of Police Squad ! to give its full title - you'll know that it's a comedic masterpiece that springboards off astonishing levels of silliness and random spoofery. Leslie Nielsen's Frank Drebin is a loveable buffoon for the ages, even when he's discussing his dicky prostrate. Do not, however, expect the Ed Helms -starring reboot to adopt exactly the same tack. According to Naked Gun director/co-writer David Zucker, talking up Airplane!'s screening at Nashville's Wild West Comedy Festival, the new version will not attempt to hit the same spoofy sweet spot as the Zuckers and Jim Abrahams' 1988 comedy. "It won’t be like the Naked Gun that I did," Zucker revealed. "It may be good, but it won’t be that kind of movie. They’re going to use the title. They asked me if I wanted to produce. They’re nice people, but they don’t want to do that style of spoof that I do." One departure
