The CW's Hunger Games -ish drama pilot has added an adviser. Sean Patrick Thomas , who co-starred opposite Julia Stiles in Save the Last Dance, has been cast in The Selection . The project is described as an epic romance set 300 years in the future in which a poor young woman is chosen by lottery to participate in a competition to become the next queen of a war-torn nation at a crossroads. Thomas will play Sylvan Santos, a close adviser to the current queen and an expert in royal etiquette who advises the participants in the competition. The actor, whose recent small-screen credits also include episodes of the CW's Ringer and Lifetime's Army Wives, joins Friday Night Lights alum Aimee Teegarden and 10 Things I Hate About You's Ethan Peck in the project. Disney XD has snagged a new animated action comedy starring the beloved arcade game character in the tentatively titled series, Pac-Man: The Adventure Begins . The series is being eyed for a fall 2013 debut on the children's cable network. Based on the iconic brand, Pac-Man: The Adventure Begins will be executive produced by Avi Arad (The Amazing Spider-Man, The Avengers) and Rick Ungar (X-Men: Evolution, Biker Mice From Mars). In a seven-figure preemptive deal, Sony Pictures is collaborating with Ryan Murphy on One Hit Wonders, a musical comedy pitch that will be written as a star vehicle for Gwyneth Paltrow, Reese Witherspoon, Cameron Diaz, Beyonce and Andy Samberg . Murphy is attached to direct, and he will write the script with his Glee cohorts Brad Falchuk and Ian Brennan. Murphy will produce with Paltrow (who has practically become a Glee cast member) and the latter makes her debut as a producer on this film. Murphy hopes to direct it after he completes The Normal Heart. Paltrow, Witherspoon and Diaz will play three singers who each scored a top hit song in the 1990s before watching their careers go down the drain. They decide to form a super group.
