Peter Quill's Ship In #GuardiansOfTheGalaxy Is Named After @Alyssa_Milano

Guardians of the Galaxy director James Gunn has confirmed, via Twitter, that Peter Quill's ship in the film is named The Milano after Alyssa Milano , Peter Quill's childhood crush. In Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy comics, Star-Lord steals a sentient vessel that he simply calls "Ship." The change in name is presumably to help reinforce Quill's connection to 1980s Earth culture. In the 1980s, Milano played the role of Samantha Micelli on the sitcom Who's the Boss?. In 1985, at the age of 12, she would appear in the film Commando. She continued to grow in fame, appearing in many made-for-TV movies, until she reached teen idol status. Peter Quill was hardly the only boy to have a crush on her during the decade. Guardians of the Galaxy opens August 1, 2014. Please Leave A Comment- Source- comicbook

Kevin Feige Talks Ant-Man & Doctor Strange

Kevin Feige is the Captain of the good ship Marvel , steering a fleet of superheroes through sometimes choppy seas. But when he came into town this week to present some footage from Guardians Of The Galaxy , Empire cornered him for a podcast and asked about a couple of the studio's future films. Most importantly, we asked him about Edgar Wright's departure from Ant-Man , as well as what we can expect from Scott Derrickson's Doctor Strange . First of all, what happened on Ant-Man? "We’ve been with Edgar for eight years. The disappointing thing for me is not being able to make a movie with him, right now; it’s just the personal relationship. It was amicable and we sat in a room together and said this isn’t working. I just wish I or he had figured that out somewhere in the eight years leading up to it. "Well, it’s not worth, right now, going into [what the disagreements were] in super-specifics. I wish it wasn’t as late in the day as it was, but it just had b

PREVIEW - Guardians of the Galaxy: What We Know So Far

Monday's 17-minute IMAX preview sets the stage for the August 1st release. Story by Matt Cummings and Zak Sousa Marvel Studios has quickly become the most talked-about entity in film, generating a steady buzz and great movies since Iron Man premiered nearly 6 years ago. A world filled with Captain America , Thor , and The Hulk was just what a tired movie industry needed, and moviegoers agreed, flooding the theaters as 2012 brought us the ultimate superhero mash-up The Avengers . But that was Phase One, and Phase Two is off and running with a few more bumps in the road than predicted. For every Captain America: The Winter Solider - now the country's #1 grossing domestic film - there's the recent departure of Ant-man helmer Edgar Wright and news that a team of writers have been brought in to perform on-scene triage of the script. And even with the most difficult year in Marvel Studio's history since the late 1990's - when it sold X-Men and Spider-m

Galaxy Getaways Viral Travel Site Launched For #GuardiansOfTheGalaxy

“Hawaii. Tahiti. The Bahamas. Some of the most beautiful destinations on Earth… look like shit compared to the rest of the galaxy.” It’s an unusual way to open the viral site for a film, but then Galaxy Getaways, which ties into that bunch of a-holes from Guardians Of The Galaxy , is no ordinary stealth movie site. Head here to have a look . For a start, it’s not particularly stealthy, but it does have the vibrant, cheeky feel the movie has given off in its trailers so far. No ‘70s jams from the soundtrack to be found, but it’s a clever way to introduce people to the various destinations that Peter Quill ( Chris Pratt ) and co. will be visiting. Sprinkled among the descriptions of places such as Knowhere (carved into the skull of a massive, ancient creature) and Xandar, home to the Nova Corps (and Gluborg’s, the first restaurant in the galaxy to score five stars), are a wealth of in-jokes and little bits of information about the movie that enhance rather than spoil the experie

Guardians of the Galaxy TV Spot: "That's a Big Gun"

The universe is depending on "criminals, misfits, and thugs" in this spot. With Marvel Studios and Empire releasing covers featuring heroes and villains from the upcoming movie, as well as a series of character posters , there was bound to be another trailer released. And like clockwork, Marvel Studios has released a new TV spot for Guardians of the Galaxy, which you can see here: The spot focuses on the team's rather sorted individual histories, suggesting that the Nova Corps are planning to use them to stop a war threatening an unknown planet. While that's probably not all we're going to see from the August 1st release, it's a guarantee that we'll be seeing other plot lines which have leaked, including the role of the mysterious Nowhere, a space station on the edge of the universe, manned by telekinetic dog Cosmo (voiced by Nathan Fillion). Additionally, we'll be seeing Ronan the Accuser, a Kree warrior who behaves like Judge Dredd but

‘Guardians of the Galaxy’ Magazine Covers

Marvel and Empire release two character covers for the upcoming film. Anticipation continues to build for Marvel's first foray into deep space, as the studio continues to move forward with its release of Guardians of the Galaxy. What can only be described as the riskiest of the studio's projects, the movie will feature no less than an assassin, the most dangerous woman in the universe, a thief, a walking tree and a talking raccoon. Say what you want about that kind of lineup, but considering all the recent bad press about Ant-man's production troubles, it's certainly generating the welcomed kind of buzz that Marvel needs at the moment. Guardians will be the first Marvel movie to be set far away from Earth (minus the flashbacks of Peter Quill's youth), which represents no less than a massive expansion of the brand that we really haven't seen in this universe. Unlike Thor and Thor: The Dark World - which took place partially off-world - there will be zero

Scott Derrickson To Direct Dr. Strange

As Marvel keeps hunting for its “ Ant-Man ” director, the company continues to move forward with its next phase of films, tapping Scott Derrickson to helm “ Dr. Strange .” Talks are still early, but sources say Derrickson, who most recently directed “ Sinister ,” is Marvel’s choice and a deal should be struck shortly. Marvel had no comment. The pic will be produced by Kevin Feige, who, over the years, has repeatedly said how badly he wants to get a “Dr. Strange” movie made. Executive producers on the project are Louis D’Esposito, Victoria Alonso, Alan Fine, Stan Lee and Stephen Broussard. The comicbook revolved around a former neurosurgeon who serves as the “Sorcerer Supreme” — the primary protector of Earth against magical and mystical threats. Strange made his first appearance in the 1963 comicbook series “Strange Tales” and would go on to have his own comicbook series and would appear in several other comicbooks that included “The Fantastic Four,” “Spider-Man” and “Nick Fu

Potential Directors For Ant-Man Film

Marvel Studios is moving fast to make good on its promise to keep its July 17, 2015, release date for Ant-Man . Sources say Rawson Marshall Thurber, Adam McKay and Ruben Fleischer are among a group of directors that are meeting with the studio to replace Edgar Wright , who abruptly exited the long-gestating project last week over creative differences. The shortlisting of this trio offers a glimpse into the mind-set of Marvel president Kevin Feige as he looks to fill the hole left by Wright, a favorite among the fanboy community. Thurber (We're the Millers, Dodgeball: A True Underdog Story) and McKay (the Anchorman movies) are known for their bawdy comedies. Fleischer , whose credits include Zombieland and Gangster Squad, has moved deftly between genres with comedic elements. Wright, a Brit with a more quirky sensibility, clashed with Marvel over the tone of the film. McKay would appear to have an edge given that he has worked with Ant-Man star Paul Rudd before, on the A

Edgar Wright Drops Out of Marvel's 'Ant-Man'

Here's why fans shouldn't be surprised by the news. For the better part of two years, fans of the Marvel Cinematic Universe have learned about the dance surrounding Director Edgar Wright's Ant-Man , a project at least a decade in the making. Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige has supported the unique nature of the project, stating emphatically that it's been Wright's force of will that's kept the project going. That is, until now. According to a statement released by Marvel Studios, Wright has departed the project. The statement, released on Friday - gives the standard "differences in their vision of the film" as the reason, but also tries to assure the reader that its July 17, 2015 release date is unaffected by the change. Good luck with that. While Marvel has become the most successful studio in recent memory, it has had its significant share of issues in keeping directors around through sequels. The list starts with Jon

"The Marvel Plan" Through 2028

Here's why we like Marvel's plan to keep you in theaters until 2028.  By: Matt Cummings Marvel Studios has redefined the way we watch movies - what other film series consistently keeps the audience in their seats to wade through the credits?  Their pull has forced a paradigm shift in the way movies and entertainment are marketed and distributed.  Other studios, feeling much like a schoolkid who gets dunked on by the larger stronger baller, are trying to follow suit, but their efforts have been spotty and are short-sighted.  DC's demand to merge Batman vs Superman into a glorified Justice League film demonstrate just how desperate they are to tap in to Marvel's mojo without really knowing how to achieve it. In its first week, WS made over $96 million worldwide. Take the release of  Captain America: The Winter Soldier , a film we personally love, not because we're superfans, but because it's good...really, really good.   Built up slowly and through

Black Widow Film In Talks

Johansson In Leather Jumpsuit? Yes Please Are you ready for a Black Widow solo movie starring Scarlett Johansson ? The film is being talked about and discussed as a possibility after Joss Whedon's Avengers movie, according to The HD Room. Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige who is on the trail promoting the upcoming release of Iron Man 2 on DVD is quoted at an appearance saying. "We've already started discussions with Scarlett about the idea of a solo movie and have begun putting together concepts," Feige said. "But The Avengers comes first." I am not a huge fan of Johnansson, but I am a fan of ladies in tight jumpsuits and lovely ladies kicking ass. It makes sense that Marvel would wait to see how audiences react to that film before making any final decision about letting the Black Widow loose on her own. Still, given her long history in the comics, surely there’s enough scope for a decent film about her adventures? Please Leave A Comment- Sourc

Captain America And The Avengers Could Be Shot In 3D

Captain America And The Avengers Could Be Shot In 3D If "Iron Man 2" had come out late in the summer, Tony Stark might have soared right out of the screen. And don't be surprised if Captain America's shield or even Thor's hammer comes flying at you in a dark theater in the seasons to come. In an interview Sunday about the huge $133.6-million opening of "Iron Man 2," Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige admitted he and his team had considered converting the superhero sequel into 3-D after seeing the success of "Avatar" and "Alice in Wonderland." Given the extensive demands of post-production on "Iron Man 2," however, they concluded there simply wasn't enough time. "We couldn't have turned over a version of the movie 10 or 20 weeks earlier for 3-D conversion without undermining the quality," he said. "We used all the time we had for mixing and editing and discovering the right tone." Don Che

Edgar Wright's Next Project An Ant-Man Film?

Edgar Wright's Next Project An Ant-Man Film? I am not sure if any of you out there have heard of this character. I am with you guys, I have heard of Ant-Man and seen it in a cartoon film once but that is pretty much it. But comic book properties are a huge thing now and everyone wants a piece of the pie. Marvel's president Kevin Feige gave us some updated  information on the Ant-Man project such as when the production will start moving forward. Edgar was in L.A. last week, we sat down, and we started working on a calendar of when to get him back into it once he finishes promoting ' Scott Pilgrim ,' so I think towards the end of this year, early next year we'd start looking at early prep for that, but certainly for a release date after The Avengers. Here is the Ant-Man origin story: Early Life: Scott Lang was born in Coral Gables, Florida. He turned to burglary when his occupation as an electronics expert failed to support his family. Apprehended, he served

Kevin Feige Talks Upcoming Marvel Films

Kevin Feige Talks Upcoming Marvel Films Kevin Feige went onto to talk about the upcoming Marvel films and how it will effect The upcoming Avengers movie which is slated for May 4, 2012. Also read the fine detail some interesting news about possible movies that might get made.Or characters that could return. "It's fun now, and we're introducing some new characters in ['Iron Man 2']," he told the magazine. "But it's not about just cramming in lots of new people; that's sort of the cardinal sin of the sequel - adding in too many characters. This is totally Tony Stark's story. And that's gonna weave into Thor's story, and Steve Rogers' story, and it's already ingrained with Nick Fury's story and an organization known as S.H.I.E.L.D." He says that it is important to first focus on each character. "My only concern is that when we launch a franchise--whichever character's franchise that may be--it should stand on it
