International Trailer For Oblivion

Here is the new international trailer for Oblivion . Oblivion, directed by Tron Legacy’s Joseph Kosinski , takes place in a world where Earth has been badly damaged by decades of war with an alien race known as the Scavs. Most of the population lives above the planet, but Cruise’s Jack Harper is a drone repairman, stationed on the Earth to keep the robo-guardians of the place active against enemy incursion. But his mission is interrupted when he rescues a beautiful stranger ( Andrea Riseborough ) from a downed spacecraft. Her arrival triggers a chain of events that makes him question everything he knows… (Cue dramatic musical string, which we’d guess might be an Inception-style parp of horns). Hayley Atwell Is On Board For The Return Of Captain Nemo

Hayley Atwell has been piped on board The Return Of Captain Nemo , a $10 million 3D sequel to 20,000 Leagues Under The Sea that hopes to start shooting January 16. David Morrissey , star of Brit TV’s Red Riding, is also attached to this Captain Nemo adventure, to be directed by Pearry Teo. Atwell — who has just tested for Universal’s Joseph Kosinski -directed Tom Cruise science fiction film Oblivion – will play the heroine Sara, while Morrissey plays her uncle, the chief adviser to President Ulysses S Grant, who frees Nemo from prison to try and discover why mysterious “sea monsters” are sinking ships up and down the Atlantic Coast. Hugh Bonneville, star of PBS/ITV period drama Downton Abbey, has already been announced as Nemo. Producer Amy Krell says she is closing the finance from U.S., Asian and UK investors, and will shoot in Romania. Like 300, The Return Of Captain Nemo will be shot entirely onstage using green screen and CGI. “We would have to double our production costs if w

Why Hollywood Needs Tom Cruise

Tom Cruise would make a great Survivor contestant. Despite his peculiar public image and less-than-stellar domestic box office in recent years, the 49-year-old has four big studio movies hitting theaters in the next 18 months: Mission: Impossible -- Ghost Protocol in December, the now-filming One Shot for Paramount, June's Rock of Ages for New Line and the untitled Joseph Kosinski sci-fi epic for Warner Bros. And THR has learned that Warners is again talking to the actor for the lead in its big-budget sci-fi war pic We Mortals Are (aka All You Need Is Kill), being directed by Doug Liman . "The studios are interested in him again," says one producer. What a turnaround. When Mission: Impossible III opened in May 2006, the actor had been under siege for his over-excited Oprah appearance, his public stumping for Scientology and his anti- psychiatry rant on Today. MI-3's $398 million worldwide gross was nearly 30 percent less than the previous film's global t

Tom Cruise To Star In "Oblivion"

Tom Cruise has committed to star for Universal Pictures in Oblivion , the science fiction film that will be directed by Joseph Kosinski , who last helmed Tron: Legacy . Production will begin in October. Cruise had been loosely attached to the Radical Publishing graphic novel adaptation when Disney let it go and Universal committed to finance and distribute the $100 million film, which came with a William Monahan script that was being rewritten by Karl Gajdusek. Kosinski hatched the idea for the project and set it to be published by Barry Levine's graphic novel imprint as a calling card for a movie when Kosinski was busy for so long directing Tron: Legacy, which topped out at $400 million worldwide gross. Disney acquired the graphic novel in a heated auction last summer, and Universal was one of the studios that also chased it. It takes place in an apocalyptic future where most of the population lives in clouds above an earth surface that has been rendered uninhabitable. Cruise

Universal Wants To Get Their Hands On "Oblivion" & Have Tom Cruise Star

Universal Pictures has emerged as the front-runner to finance and distribute Oblivion , the Joseph Kosinski-directed sci-fi project that has Tom Cruise in early talks to star. The studio has entered into exclusive negotiations for a deal that would carry progress to production language, with a goal to begin shooting in October. The deal hinges on Kosinski's ability to bring in the film at around the $100 million mark. Cruise doesn't have a deal at this point, but they are talking. Deadline told you last week that Universal was among three studios chasing the film. The film was scripted by William Monahan, with Karl Gajdusek currently rewriting. Oblivion recently shook loose from Disney, where Kosinski made his feature directorial debut on Tron: Legacy. That film just hit the $400 million worldwide gross mark for Disney, and the studio has a Tron sequel and other projects with Kosinski. But the studio let the filmmaker shop it because the post-apocalyptic Oblivion premise d

Bruce Boxleitner Talks Tron 3

MTV spoke with  Bruce Boxleitner and the question on everyone’s mind: will there be a third “Tron” film? “I think 'Tron: Legacy' left it open-ended,” Boxleitner said in an interview with MTV News. “You see two beautiful people riding off into the sunrise, and Quora seeing sunrise for the first time. That leaves it open to imagination and speculation." Boxleitner has played two characters in the “Tron” series, Alan Bradley and Tron… three if you count the brainwashed Rinzler from “Tron: Legacy” who is revealed to be Tron himself. Although he left it to someone else to suit up for the physical acrobatics shown on screen, it’s Boxleitner who voiced the character "We also saw Cillian Murphy and the boardroom at ENCOM when Sam pulled the stunt in the beginning," he continued. "All these things have been left hanging out there.” “ Rinzler is the attack dog for Clu – and through the movie the character made a journey back to redemption,” the actor points o

Joseph Kosinski's Oblivion Retitled Horizons

Karl Gajdusek , the scribe who wrote the upcoming Nicole Kidman - Nicolas Cage thriller Trespass , has been tapped for rewrite duties on Disney's Joseph Kosinski  (Tron: Legacy) project Horizons , formerly known as Oblivion . Kosinski, the helmer behind Tron Legacy, came up with the concept for Horizons, a sci-fi actionner centering on a soldier assigned to patrol a desolate planet who meets a mysterious traveler, teaming up with Radical Pictures, the movie arm of graphic novel house Radical Publishing. Late last summer, the project was picked up by Disney, who quickly set William Monahan, the Oscar-winning scribe behind The Departed and Kingdom of Heaven, to write a draft. Kosinski, Barry Levine, and Jeffrey Silver are producing the pic, which is a high priority as the studio. Gajdusek, repped by Verve and Benderspink, worked on Warner Bros.' Liam Neeson thriller Unknown and is writing Cradle Will Fall, a thriller Unique Pictures is producing for Screen Gems. Pleas

Tron: The Next Day Trailer

There are no light bikes or flying discs, but there's still plenty fot the Tron: Legacy faithful to enjoy in this new short film, Tron: The Next Day , which has just surfaced online. Culled from the forthcoming DVD and Blu-Ray , it's a gap-bridging exercise filling in what happened at ENCOM in the years between the original film and Legacy, and charting the activities of the underground Flynn Lives movement. Watch the clip after the Jump... There are spoilers ahoy for those who haven't caught Legacy yet, so beware, but let's just say the feature makes good use of cast members old and new, and that the eventual reveal of the mysterious Zakattack's true identity is fun. We thought it was Banksy, but it isn't. Please Leave A Comment- Source- Empire

TRON 3 Could Be On It's Way Sooner Then Later

Aint it Cool News has confirmed a recent rumour from What’s Playing that a second “Tron” sequel is on it’s way to being greenlit. According to Harry Knowles, “ TRON Legacy ”, released in December to mixed reviews, is “set to cross $300 million worldwide” and “has proved, beyond a doubt that there is an audience that buys this science fiction fantasy.” But it’s not just the film that’s helped the brand biggen – the merchandise (those light cycles; action figures, and so on) and CD soundtrack (by Daft Punk) have also helped Tron’s case. “Disney is beginning to realize, TRON could be a franchise”, wrote Knowles. In December, What’s Playing’s Hollywood Insider column reported that the “creatives and execs involved in the latest film are pushing on under the assumption that the film will make a profit, and for that reason, they’re already brainstorming over the next sequel.” One of the ideas being tossed around for the next sequel includes incorporating the character of Yori, pla

Tron: Legacy Passes100 Million Mark

25% Comes From Imax Theaters Tron: Legacy crossed the $100 million mark at the domestic box office on Tuesday. The movie, budgeted at $170 million, which has been in U.S. theaters for 12 days, has also made around $75 million overseas. The most interesting note about the domestic number is that almost a quarter of the box office receipts -- about $25 million -- are from IMAX theaters . Tron is playing in 3,451 theaters across Canada and the U.S., with only 235 of those being IMAX houses. For that low count to generate 25% of the gross is astonishing. And a record proportion for IMAX. Read more after the Jump.. But while that is good news for IMAX, it’s not necessarily good news for Disney. IMAX filmgoers tend to be in the 15 to 34-year-old demo and are -- how shall I put it? -- geekier than the average person. So the numbers reveal that while the tentpole is performing solidly in its core demo, it’s ability to break out into a broader audience might remain a bit elusive, despit

Tron: Legacy Review By SandwichJohn

Tron: Legacy Movie Review By: SandwichJohn Alright let's start this again. Two hours of writing my review have been lost, but I have to get this done so let's start all over again. This is my life. The original Tron came out back in 1982 and I don't remember going to see it in theater but I do remember wearing out our Beta machine watching the movie over and over again. Going in the back yard while living in Sagamihara,Japan and playing disc wars with a Frisbee, throwing them at my buddies and pretending we were in the arena. This has to be one of the most anticipated films for me in my life time other then the release of Star Wars Episode 1 . I have been hoping and wishing that they would make a sequel for more than 20 years. I attended my first Comic-Con back in 2008 and there was buzz that there was going to be a tron panel during the Disney presentation. We got a teaser trailer TR2N . It depicted a yellow Program engaged in a light cycle battle with a blue Pr
