Acclaimed actors James Earl Jones and Donald Glover have joined the voice cast of Disney and director Jon Favreau ’s live-action reimagining of The Lion King . Donald Glover will voice adult Simba, while James Earl Jones will reprise the role of Mufasa, which he made famous in the 1994 animated film. The Lion King follows in the footsteps of Disney’s contemporary re-envisioning of some of its most beloved classics with films like Maleficent, Cinderella, and the upcoming Beauty and the Beast, starring Emma Watson and debuting in theaters on March 17. In addition, Disney recently collaborated with Favreau on the Oscar-nominated smash hit The Jungle Book. For The Lion King, Disney and Favreau will build on the groundbreaking technology used in The Jungle Book to bring the story of Simba to photorealistic life. Seth MacFarlane’s new Fox show may not have a name yet – but it has just secured Jon Favreau as the director and executive producer of its first episode. Starring MacFarlane, Adrianne Palicki and Scott Grimes , the comedy (it was never going to be a drama, was it?) is set 300 years in the future, on a spaceship named ‘Orville’. Favreau will continue to work as a consultant over the show’s 13 episodes, the pilot of which will start filming in January. After the success of The Jungle Book, Favreau is confirmed to direct the sequel, staying with Disney to serve as an executive producer on both Avengers: Infinity War and 2019’s currently untitled Avengers film. Disney's crusade to turn its animated properties into live-action movies has largely been a successful one, and that continues with Jon Favreau's new version of The Jungle Book , which has opened to $103.5 million in the States, according to studio estimates. That's a healthy start for the film, which carried a reported $175 million production budget and cost a fair chunk on top of that to market.
