Terminator Sequel Gets Terminated

After the disappointing box office results for Terminator Genisys last year, there was a lot of talk of recalibrating the attempted new trilogy. Now it appears Paramount is ready to put the brakes on even harder, removing the planned second film from its release schedule. The next Terminator film, which didn't have a confirmed cast, director or writers, but had been hoping to kick off shooting this year, had been sitting on the company's schedule in the prime early summer slot of May 19, 2017. Hopes had been high that Genisys would launch a revived Terminator franchise, but the critical reaction and the low turnout ($89 million in the US, with a slightly healthier worldwide response thanks partly to China) didn't instill confidence. There may well still be movement on the Terminator front, especially as the rights revert to creator James Cameron in 2019, but for now Arnie and co. are in timeline limbo. Still, Terminator's loss is Baywatch's gain, as the film ve

Jennifer Lawrence Will Take The Dive

The “ Hunger Games ” duo will tackle the tragic true tale of Francisco “Pipin” Ferraras and Audrey Mestre Oscar winner Jennifer Lawrence and her “Hunger Games” director Francis Lawrence are reteaming on “ The Dive ,” which is being produced by James Cameron, TheWrap has learned. “ The Dive ” tells the tragic true story of freedivers Francisco “Pipin” Ferraras and his wife Audrey Mestre, who competed to travel as deep as possible underwater on a single breath of air. Lawrence will play Mestre, who died during an attempt to beat her own world record of 557.7 feet. Ferraras paid tribute to his late wife by diving to the same depth in an attempt that was filmed by Cameron. Cameron is producing with his Lightstorm Entertainment partner Rae Sanchini as well as Barry Josephson. Dana Stevens (“Safe Haven”) wrote the most recent draft of the script, according to an individual familiar with the project. The Lawrences have worked together on “The Hunger Games: Catching Fire” an

James Cameron Announces Avatar 2 Delayed

Read on to learn how far the sequels have been pushed back. Story by David Clark It was announced today that the follow-up film to the wildly successful Avatar has been pushed out of 2016 and into 2017. James Cameron has big plans for the future of the Avatar franchise which was apparent when it was learned that Avatar would have not 1, but 3 sequels. The 3 upcoming films have still not received their finished titles. They are still known as Avatar 2 , Avatar 3 , and Avatar 4 . Cameron’s plan has always been to write and film all three movies at the same time and then release one film per year. However, due to the delay the first film will not appear until 2017. Currently assisting Cameron with the writing of the individual movies are a couple of well known names. Working on Avatar 2 are Rick Jaffa and Amanda Silver (Rise of the Planet of the Apes). Josh Friedman (The Sarah Connor Chronicles) is working on Avatar 3. Shane Salerno (Savages) is also working with C

Neill Blomkamp Alien Film Concept Art

Director Neill Blomkamp , who has brought us films such as District 9 and Elysium , was developing an Alien film, but has apparently scrapped work on the project. It would have been part of the same franchise from Ridley Scott and James Cameron , and we have some concept art to share with you that shows how cool it would have looked. Blomkamp revealed the news himself on his Instagram page along with several illustrations that were done for it. I've included the notes from the director that came along with each piece of art. The first one you see above came with the following caption: "Was working on this. Don't think I am anymore. Love it though. #alien #xenomorph" He also posted the following comments on Twitter: "Ps this has nothing to do with the studio. I just feel like I might do something else instead. In which case why not show some work- See all the images after the Jump... Please Leave A Comment- S

Avatar Sequels “They’re Gonna Be Bitchin’ & "You Will Shit Yourself" According To James Cameron

While Peter Jackson’s The Hobbit: The Battle Of The Fives Armies hogs the New Zealand limelight, a quiet corner of the North Island houses James Cameron as he beavers away on the scripts for his next two Avatar films, currently known as Avatars 2, 3 and 4 but soon no doubt to be furnished with sexier, more descriptive titles. ‘Eywa Hard With A Vengeance’, that kind of thing. “I can tell you one thing about them,” Cameron laughs when Empire nonchalantly enquiries about storylines. “ They’re gonna be bitchin ’. You will shit yourself with your mouth wide open.” Despite early rumours of a move to 60 frames per second, 48 is Cameron’s choice of frame rate for the sequels. “My thinking at the time was that 60 [FPS] might be a better segue to the video market,” he says. “I’ll be plugging into a system that’s a little more mature, so it makes sense for me to do 48 frames at this point.” The writer/director has divided the two scripts across a writing team that includes Rick Jaffa

#TERMINATORGENISYS Uneventful Images

New images from TERMINATOR GENISYS and to be honest I am not impressed with the images at all. But I still have hope for the film. See all the images after the Jump... The filmmakers plan to re-create the memorable scene in the original Terminator when the T-800 lands at L.A.’s Griffith Observatory, complete with Schwarzenegger’s 36-year-old face and ripped, naked body. To achieve that, the special-effects team has created a “synthespian,” or synthetic thespian, using a body double plus scans of Schwarzenegger’s face from the first film merged with what his face looks like now. The result: an entirely CG head of the Terminator circa 1984. The filmmakers are counting on that technology, and the movie’s villain—a man/machine hybrid they’re keeping under wraps—to be visual game changers. Please Leave A Comment- Images Via EW

First Look At #TerminatorGenisys

We’ve heard a lot of talk about how Terminator: Genisys will play with the timeline originally established by James Cameron in the first two films. Now, with Entertainment Weekly publishing the first proper looks at the new movie via its latest covers, there are also some intriguing story details to relate. Naturally, we would caution that if you read ahead, you’re wandering into SPOILER TERRITORY , so be suitably advised. Genisys reportedly starts in 2029, with the war between the human rebels and Skynet’s malicious machines is in full swing. Present and correct – though played now by different actors – are John Connor ( Jason Clarke ) and Kyle Reese ( Jai Courtney ) who are taking advantage of pushing back against the antagonistic artificial intelligence to send Reese to 1984 on his mission to save Sarah Connor from termination at the hands of a killer cyborg. So far, so story as usual for the franchise. But when Reese makes it into the past, things are very different. Sar

The Terminator Turns 30 Today.

Remember when the 21st century seemed like an eternity away? In the latter half of the last century, Hollywood got pretty imaginative guessing what awaited us in the near-future, with ray guns or hoverboards or some other gadget that is still, in 2014, years or decades away from even having the chance of becoming commonplace. Some of these films, like 1989's " Back to the Future Part II " (which depicted flying cars as a popular form of transportation in the year 2015) took an optimistic approach, while others (take 1982's grim " Blade Runner ") held a more dystopian view -- as was certainly the case with one of the most ground-breaking sci-fi films of that era, 1984's " The Terminator ." It was conceived as a low-budget flick that would quickly be forgotten (with almost no expectations from the studio that it would ever become a success), but " The Terminator " has defied just about all predictions over the last three decades.

"Avatar" Cirque do Soleil Coming Soon

Fox and Lightstorm Entertainment also partner on the project, which will begin its global run next year A Cirque do Soleil arena touring show inspired by James Cameron's movie blockbuster “ Avatar ” is in the works, the director and the troupe said Thursday. Cirque du Soleil and Cameron and Jon Landau's Lightstorm Entertainment will create the project. The show is expected to debut with a global tour next year, before the first of three upcoming “Avatar” sequels, for which the director is currently in pre-production. Twentieth Century Fox, which financed and distributed “Avatar” and upcoming sequels, is also a partner on the live show. “Our relationship with Jim Cameron began with my visit at his ‘Avatar’ cutting room,” said Daniel Lamarre, Cirque du Soleil president and chief executive. “I am thrilled that almost five years later, Cirque du Soleil will be able to explore the very inspirational ‘Avatar’ realm for the live stage.” Cirque du Soleil and Lightstorm Ente

Get Ready For 4 Avatar Films

Yesterday’s news that James Cameron has hired Black Dahlia screenwriter Josh Friedman to work on Avatar 2 with him was apparently just the tip of the iceberg lurking in Pandora’s oceans (assuming Pandora’s oceans have cold enough zones for icebergs, which remains to be seen). Regardless, Cameron has now made good on his statement of May last year about being the Avatar business, confirming he’ll make Avatar 2, 3 and 4 ready for release in a year apart from 2016 onwards. It appears that spending time in New Zealand working on the stories has allowed some of Peter Jackson’s Lord Of The Rings spirit to creep into Cameron's already workaholic brain. Now Cameron and 20th Century Fox have gone public with the announcement that, in addition to Friedman, Rise Of The Planet Of The Apes co-writers Rick Jaffa and Amanda Silver and Savages scribe Shane Salerno will each take co-scribbling duties on the three new trips to Pandora. Salerno has form collaborating with Cameron, as he worke

TERMINATOR To Return In 2015

Paramount has confirmed the long in the works deal to co finance and distribute the reboot of James Cameron’s Terminator franchise creation. Highbrow picture maker Megan Ellison spent over $20 million for the rights in 2011, and the project didn't go very far. Things finally started percolating when Megan Ellison and her Annapurna Pictures joined forces with brother David Ellison, whose Skydance Productions has a deal with Paramount and makes popcorn movies. Avatar’s Laeta Kalogridis and Patrick Lussier have been working on the script for months. Arnold Schwarzenegger returns as the title character and the hope is to get at least two movies done before North American copyright reverts back to Cameron, who might want a fortune or might want to retire the franchise. Here’s the announcement: Skydance Productions, Annapurna Pictures and Paramount Pictures have jointly announced they will partner on a rebooted “ TERMINATOR ” movie, to be released by Paramount Pictures on June 26
