Vacation makes me want to take a STAY-cation. Review by Matt Cummings It's not too often that a movie makes me wish film never existed, yet her I am ready to give the newest Vacation all the hate it deserves. And hate on it I will. Grown-up Rusty (Ed Helms) is stuck in a dull marriage to Debbie (Christina Applegate), who's been forced year after year to spend vacation with her family at a cabin in Michigan. When the overly optimistic Rusty realizes his family needs a change, he packs them up for a trip to Walley World, the site of his greatest trip as a teen. But soon, his family begins to encounter difficulties and flat-out disasters that could end their road trip and return Rusty's marriage back to square one. It might surprise our readers to know that someone from our team actually considered walking out of Vacation , and we get to see these films for free. Esquire scored the first official image from the National Lampoon's Vacation reboot. The Powers That Be have wanted to remake 1983's Chevy Chase -led National Lampoon's Vacation since 2009, if not before. Despite a string of sex-crazed, low-rent, direct-to-DVD excuses-for-movies sullying the Lampoon film brand throughout the late '90s and 2000s, a new Vacation movie was top priority. The goal was to bring Chase's Clark Griswold back as a grandfather. Brilliant! Or, logical enough. The idea percolated. It was happening. Then it wasn't? Then it was. Ed Helms joined the rumor party in 2012, supposedly taking on the role of Clark Griswold's son Rusty. Then the idea faded. Maybe people didn't really wan—WAIT HOLD ON. According to Naked Gun director/co-writer David Zucker, talking up Airplane!'s screening at Nashville's Wild West Comedy Festival, the new version will not attempt to hit the same spoofy sweet spot as the Zuckers and Jim Abrahams' 1988 comedy. "It won’t be like the Naked Gun that I did," Zucker revealed. "It may be good, but it won’t be that kind of movie. They’re going to use the title. They asked me if I wanted to produce. Chris Hemsworth and Charlie Day are taking a little Vacation. The actors are in negotiations to sign on for roles in New Line’s reboot-slash-remake to the classic 1980s comedy series that starred Chevy Chase . John Francis Daley and Jonathan Goldstein wrote the script and are making their directorial debut. The new movie sees Ed Helms starring as Rusty Griswold, the grown-up son of Clark Griswold ( Chase ) who takes his family on a road trip similar to the one he and his parents and sister took when he was young. Christina Applegate is on board as Rusty’s wife. Chase and Beverly D’Angelo are to make cameos in the movie, which begins shooting in September after having been delayed. Hemsworth , who sources say has been itching to do a comedy for awhile, will play Stone Crandall, an up-and-coming anchorman and the husband of Rusty’s sister, Audrey. Detective Frank Drebin is coming back with Ed Helms on board to portray Leslie Nielsen’s character in Paramount’s reboot of “ The Naked Gun ” comedy franchise. The studio has tapped the scripting team of Thomas Lennon and R. Ben Garant — best known for the “ Night at the Museum ” and “ Reno 911 ″ franchises, to write the screenplay as a new spin on the Drebin character. Helms starred in “ The Hangover ” trilogy and “ We’re the Millers ” and recently recently wrapped “Stretch” opposite Chris Pine and Patrick Wilson. He stars in the romcom parody “They Came Together,” which will premiere at Sundance, opposite Paul Rudd and Amy Poehler. Paramount released “ The Naked Gun: From the Files of Police Squad! ” in 1988 with Nielsen battling Ricardo Montalban’s character plotting to assassinate Queen Elizabeth II at a baseball game in Los Angeles. We're the Millers Review By: MattInRC Does We're the Millers deliver plenty of laughs, or get arrested for indecent exposure? The problem with today's crass comedies is simple they're just not that funny. Think about what doomed Grown Ups 2 or Hangover III : ill-conceived plots surrounded by skits that relied too heavily on ad-libbing. But when those scenes lead to more groans than laughs, you know the industry has missed the point. Luckily, We're the Millers doesn't succumb to this pitfall, instead delivering lots of laughs and proving that comedies can be a little crass and still entertain. The plot is fairly simple: small-time pot dealer David Clark ( Jason Sudeikis , Horrible Bosses) is forced to drive an RV filled with weed across the Mexican border after his stash is stolen by some local thugs. There's a bit of a cameo here in Clark's creepy pin-stripe suited contact who sends him on the journey, so we won't ruin that one
