AMC comic adaptation gets preachy. Review by Brandon Wolfe AMC’s adaptation of the cult comic Preacher is clearly intended to be something of a companion piece to the network’s similarly comics-derived The Walking Dead , but going off of the new series’ debut episode, the two are dramatically different in their respective approaches. The Walking Dead is a very simple show, by design. The world has ended, zombies run rampant, and our heroes try to stay alive while encountering other, more sinister factions of survivors. Preacher is far more complicated than that. Its first outing just about breaks its neck to set up its unwieldy premise. Spanning from outer space to Africa to Texas to Kansas to Russia, the pilot is in a mad dash to convey its world and characters to us. If there’s one thing Warcraft is known for in its virtual form, it’s expansion. So it somehow makes sense that the film based on the game is also undergoing a little escalating, at least in its title. The evidence is for all to see, as the newly-named Warcraft: The Beginning has launched a fresh poster. Moon and Source Code director Duncan Jones is putting the finishing touches to the film, which promises to show both sides of the story set in the seemingly peaceful realm of Azeroth, poised to descend into bitter war between man and orc when a portal opens between their two worlds. We’ll meet the likes of battle-hardened warrior Anduin Lothar ( Travis Fimmel ), the commander of the human forces and champion of his king, Llane Wrynn ( Dominic Cooper ). While the critical reaction to last year’s Need For Speed might have made it seem as though any sequel idea would end up rusting in a disused garage, game producers Electronic Arts took a look at the $203 million worldwide box office and decided to try to gear up a sequel. The company is has several Chinese companies looking to help get a new movie made. According to Variety, the plan for this one is to play up those business connections and shoot much of the movie in China, with local actors taking big roles. There’s no word yet on whether any of the cast from last year’s first film – which included Aaron Paul, Imogen Poots and Michael Keaton – will return. And a bigger roadblock is locking down the rights to make the thing at all, since DreamWorks currently holds the option. There is some good news today for fans of Agent Peggy Carter , and, more specifically of the younger Howard Stark as played in Captain America: The First Avenger and the One-Shot by Dominic Cooper . The actor has made a deal to co-star in the TV series that will find them continuing the good fight. With Hayley Atwell returning as Peggy herself, Marvel’s Agent Carter will track the character as she deals with post-war America in 1946. Peacetime has not been the best time for Carter, marginalized by her colleagues and balancing administrative work with much more important, stealthy duties at the Strategic Scientific Reserve, helping to build what will eventually become S.H.I.E.L.D. We glimpsed something of her world in the short Carter adventure, which accompanied Iron Man 3's Blu-ray. After changing names a couple of times like a sneaky vampire, the new take on Dracula’s origin is now going by the moniker Dracula Untold . Luke Evans is the man with the fangs (at least, we assume, at some point) and Universal has put out two posters from the film to tantalise your eyes. Little has been released about the movie so far, save for the fact that it will be a new look at how the character we know from Bram Stoker’s Dracula has his roots in a real man. Evans’ Vlad Tepes is initially shown as an honourable but troubled man who fights for his people and will go to any lengths to protect his family. Unfortunately for him, “any lengths” includes “making a dark pact that sets him on a path to become one of fiction’s most iconic monsters.” It’s a bit like agreeing to let Capita run your public services, but obviously less annoying.
