TV Review: Crisis “How Far Would You Go”

TV Review: Crisis “How Far Would You Go” By: Brandon Wolfe As usual, a lot happened on ‘ Crisis ’ this week, while at the same time not much happened. The show is good at keeping the wheels spinning while never attaining any actual forward motion, like a car stuck in the mud. Fred Dryer’s villainous CIA operative has made good on his threat to seize Meg (and Gillian Anderson’s hilariously crazed cry of “This can’t happen!” indicates that ‘Crisis’ has officially broken even her down to the level of horrific acting) and demands that Dunn and Finley hand Clarenbach over to him if they want Meg left alive. Clarenbach obviously bristles at this and announces to the agents that Gibson is the kidnapper and that all of this boils down to a war between Gibson and Director Widener, which Clarenbach as the pawn both of them seek. Dunn decides that she will go after Meg while Finley uses Clarenbach to go after Gibson. But Gibson, as always, has his own plan and reaches out to one of the par

TV Review: Crisis “Homecoming” By: Brandon Wolfe

TV Review: Crisis “Homecoming” By: Brandon Wolfe Picking up the exact moment we left off last week, Finley and Dunn answer the cell phone conveniently left by Gibson for, I guess, this very occasion. Gibson, his voice disguised, is on the other end and Finley and Dunn attempt to reason with him. Finley asks about a Station Orange code he picked up earlier from the soldiers, which Gibson seems thrown by but makes a note of. Finley and Dunn then attempt to make a deal with Gibson: Stop using the parents to do his dirty work and use them instead. He agrees to this, and will call back later with their first assignment. Finley and Dunn have trepidation about this arrangement, but agree that if one tells the other they’re crossing a line, they’ll stop. Before long, they are handed their initial set of marching orders and are ordered to retrieve a man who is being held at a certain location, for which they are provided an address and nothing further. On their way out, Dunn encounters her

TV Review: Crisis “Here He Comes” By: Brandon Wolfe

TV Review: Crisis “Here He Comes” By: Brandon Wolfe It’s Day 5 of the kidnapping and Finley and Dunn are hatching a plan to use the materials recovered from Jonas Clarenbach’s house as bait to lure the kidnappers out into the open. Playing on a hunch that the kidnappers have tapped into the cameras present at the regular meetings the FBI is holding with the parents of the taken children, Finley and Dunn play for the cameras and mention the recovered files and where they can be found. Gibson, of course, sees this and dispatches his senior henchman, Koz, to leave his post guarding the captured soldiers and investigate the files, winning Koz over when he mentions that Finley will be present and that Koz can take his revenge on him for the murder of his brother in the pilot episode. Dunn, meanwhile, receives a text from a blocked number from someone stating that they know she is Amber’s mother and that she will help them out. Dunn, after some initial reluctance, fills Finley in on this

TV Review: Crisis "Designated Allies" By: Brandon Wolfe

TV Review: Crisis "Designated Allies" By: Brandon Wolfe Francis Gibson contacts his wife Janice via a cell phone stashed in the cupboard in the kitchen and, using a distorted voice to retain anonymity, instructs her to invite CIA Director Widener to come to the house so that she can poison him. As has been the case with all the parents on this show thus far, she complies with very little hesitation. When Widener arrives, he expresses his condolences to Janice over the kidnapping of her daughter and husband, but is able to quickly figure out what is going on and refuses the tea she presents him. However, Gibson, in accordance with villain law, intended this to happen and it was all part of the plan. His real goal was to get Widener’s guard down, using the clear attraction the director has to Janice as bait to allow Gibson’s team the time to remotely hack Widener’s phone for security access. Finley and Dunn learn that the soldiers recovered from the Pakistani embass

TV Review: Crisis “We Were Supposed to Help Each Other”

TV Review: Crisis “We Were Supposed to Help Each Other” By: Brandon Wolfe ‘ Crisis ’ continues to be a complete failure at everything it attempts to do. It’s a thriller that isn’t thrilling, involving characters we do not care about in a story that doesn’t seem worth the telling. The show moves with a constant urgency that exists only onscreen, not in the viewer. It’s biting its own nails while we at home are stifling yawns. Kidnapping ringmaster Francis Gibson is using more powerful parents as tools to do his bidding. This week, he’s enlisted Congressman Langston Wirth, his wife Marie, and Senator Mason Yarrow in a plan to wrest information from the CIA headquarters in Langley in exchange for their children’s freedom. Using their high-level government access, the parents are able to get their hands on a highly classified flash drive from within the CIA vault and, using the threat of a phony bomb vest, get it outside to be transmitted via cell phone, a process that costs th

TV Review: Crisis “If You Are Reading This I am Dead”

TV Review: Crisis “If You Are Reading This I am Dead” By: Brandon Wolfe In its premiere episode, ‘Crisis’ worked up quite a sweat in kicking off its convoluted premise, and if anything, the series gets even sweatier in its second outing. This is a show that is positively breaking its neck in about ten different places to take us on a ride that isn’t anywhere near as exciting or interesting as it thinks it is. We resume with Gillian Anderson’s Meg Fitch, who has been blackmailed by kidnapping ringmaster Francis Gibson to produce $20 million in exchange for the release of Amber, her daughter (who is secretly her niece, because this show is enamored with twists destined to be met with a shrug). Meg takes the money to a designated location, but instead of being presented with Amber, she instead receives a proof-of-life photo of Amber. FBI agent Susie Dunn is interrogating Secret Service agent Marcus Finley over his potential involvement in the kidnapping, since his surviva
