Will David Fincher Direct Angelina Jolie In Cleopatra?

What has happened with Sony Pictures' plans to mount an exciting new biopic of Cleopatra , with Angelina Jolie attached as the Egyptian queen, based on Stacy Schiff's bestselling book Cleopatra: A Life ? I'm told the director conversation right now is with David Fincher , who just got a Best Director Oscar nomination working with Cleopatra producer Scott Rudin, and who is working with Rudin on the Stieg Larsson novel adaptation The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo , also at Sony Pictures. I spoke to James Cameron in December and he let me know that he was not doing the film. until 20th Century Fox stepped up and got him to commit instead to two Avatar sequels. After that, speculation centered around Paul Greengrass, who wound up instead directing his own script, Memphis, about the assassination of Martin Luther King Jr., for Universal, also with Rudin producing. It's not surprising that the top directors in town are after this gig. As Rudin has described it, this is t

Kevin Spacey Has A "House of Cards"

Kevin Spacey has come on board to star in and executive produce David Fincher's drama series project for indie producer Media Rights Capital, House of Cards , marking a reunion of The Social Network director Fincher and executive producer Spacey. In his TV directorial debut, Fincher will direct the pilot for the project, based on the book and British miniseries of the same name. He will executive produce with Eric Roth, writer of Fincher's previous movie, The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, Joshua Donen as well as Spacey and his producing partner at Trigger Street Prods. Dana Brunetti. The political-thriller novel House of Cards , written by Michael Dobbs, former Conservative Party chief of staff, is set at the end of Margaret Thatcher's tenure as prime minister and follows a British politician with his eye on the top job. In 1990, it was adapted by the BBC as a miniseries written by Andrew Davies and starring Ian Richardson. It went on to win a BAFTA award for Richard

Pictures Of Rooney Mara In The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo

The first official photos of Rooney Mara ( The Social Network ) as Lisbeth Salander in David Fincher‘s take on The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo has arrived thanks to W photo shoot. If you want to read the entire story head on over to W . “Before I read the book, I didn’t think I could do it,” Mara said. She was calling me from Zurich, where the production moved in early December. “I locked myself in a room for a week and read all three books, and decided I really wanted to be Lisbeth. But I thought I had no shot at it.” See more pictures after the Jump.. The script, which captures the novel’s bleak tone (its original Swedish title was Men Who Hate Women), was written by Academy Award winner Steven Zaillian, who wrote Schindler’s List, and it departs rather dramatically from the book. Blomkvist is less promiscuous, Salander is more aggressive, and, most notably, the ending—the resolution of the drama—has been completely changed. This may be sacrilege to some, but Zaillian h

Mark Zuckerberg Reacts To The Social Network

'The Social Network' Got His Clothing Exactly Right So what does the founder of Facebook think of the film The Social Network . He has been pretty silent about the film and the accuracy of the film.  But he is finally speaking about about the movie. Zuckerberg admitted to an audience at a start-up conference that he did, in fact, check out the David Fincher film. How did he feel about a movie that will forever paint him as a woman-hating, status-obsessed creep? Kinda charitable, actually! Mark Zuckerberg says 'The Social Network' got his clothing exactly right Read the story after the Jump.. Zuckerberg is asked about the film's accuracy: "I mean, where do you want to start? I don't know. It's interesting what stuff they focused on getting right; like, every single shirt and fleece that I had in that movie is actually a shirt or fleece that I own. So there's all this stuff that they got wrong and a bunch of random details that they got r

"The Social Network" Tops The Box Office

"The Social Network" Tops The Box Office A curious box-office creature, Sony's " The Social Network " appears more tortoise than hare. The David Fincher-helmed drama about the creation of Facebook posted an estimated $23 million to top the domestic box office during the weekend. Yet the "Social" launch fell in the lower end of projections, despite showing broad demographic bandwidth. Prerelease interest in the PG-13 pic was keenest among younger males, even though dramas tend to play older. But as things turned out, opening audiences for "Social" were comprised 53% of females, with 55% of patrons aged 25 or older. The older-skewing profile could be good news for the film's longer-term prospects. Such pics often show sturdy legs, and dramas also tend to stretch grosses over a longer play period. "It's playing very broadly, and this is a terrific start," Sony distribution president Rory Bruer said. "This is a mov

Rooney Mara Lands The Lead Role In "The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo"

Rooney Mara Lands The Lead Role In "The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo" Ending one of the most drawn out and closely watched casting searches for an actress in years, Sony Pictures Entertainment and director David Fincher have chosen Rooney Mara to play Lisbeth Salander in The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo , the film that begins shooting this fall in Sweden, with Daniel Craig starring. The film will be released December 21, 2011. Rooney was considered Fincher's first choice in the process: the director had just helmed her in The Social Network . Closing a deal will amount to a formality, because Mara essentially agreed to terms when she and other young actresses signed on to tests that Fincher and producer Scott Rudin have conducted over the past several weeks. Her deal includes an option for two sequels that will cover The Girl Who Played With Fire and The Girl Who Kicked The Hornet's Nest , the second and third books in the Millennium Trilogy by the late author

The Social Network Teaser Trailer

The Social Network Teaser Trailer Columbia Pictures has just released the very first teaser trailer for its upcoming film, The Social Network . Like the poster that debuted last week, the teaser is sparse in its detail, but intriguing and provocative at the same time. The Social Network, otherwise known as “the Facebook (Facebook) movie,” is based in part on the book The Accidental Billionaires. Written by Aaron Sorkin and directed by David Fincher, the film stars Jesse Eisenberg as Zuckerberg. It hits theaters this October. Watch the trailer after the jump.. The tag line for the film, “ You can’t make 500 million friends without making a few enemies ” seems to sum up some of those early days, and the film is as much an exploration of young people coming to terms with creating something bigger than themselves as much as it is about loyalty,

The Social Network- Poster

The Social Network- Poster With all the issues over privacy and those truly annoying invites to play Mafia Wars or help with Farmville crops, Facebook is one of those fads that looks like it’s on the wane a little. But the story of the people who created it, and how the success poisoned their friendships, is still one we’re interested to see. Particularly as the result – The Social Network – boasts David Fincher in the director’s chair, working from a script by Aaron Sorkin. And now there’s a nicely creative poster for the movie. A nice twist on the usual use of heads in posters, matched by the Facebook-style bar at the side. With Jessie Eisenberg , Justin Timberlake and Andrew Garfield starring as co-founders Mark Zuckerberg, Sean Parker and Eduardo Saverin respectively, the movie uses Ben Mezrich’s book The Accidental Billionaires: The Founding of Facebook, A Tale of Sex, Money, Genius, and Betrayal to chronicle the festering issues that drove the original trio to the

David Fincher Next Film To Be "The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo"

David Fincher Next Film To Be "The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo" It was confirmed a while ago that David Fincher would direct  " The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo " is definitely Fincher's next film. Already adapted into an award-winning Swedish language trilogy , the English-language version is being produced by Scott Rudin at Sony with Steve Zaillian ("Schindler's List," "American Gangster," the original draft of "Moneyball") currently writing the script. As we previously reported, Carey Mulligan was on the studio wishlist for the lead role of Lisbeth Salander but that seems to be as far as it's gotten. As Mulligan herself confirmed, she's not received any official calls regarding the role and we're not surprised considering the script isn't finished. From what we hear, Fincher wants an unknown for the lead role which would prove to be an interesting gamble for such a high profile project (not to mention a maj

Marc Webb To Spin A Web On Spider-Man Reboot?

Marc Webb To Spin A Web On Spider-Man Reboot? Marc Webb, the (500) Days Of Summer director, has climbed to the top of the Sony Pictures' list to rebirth the Spider-Man franchise. While the studio has a wish list of star directors like James Cameron, David Fincher, and Wes Anderson, the emergence of Webb as director comes as a huge surprise. But Mike Fleming's sources tell him Webb met about the Spidey reboot with the pic's producers and executives looking to get the picture into production later this year for a Summer 2012 release. Why will the pic take so long? Because it's likely to be shot in 3-D, and Sony Pictures plans to make an announcement about that "at the appropriate time". Though he has the perfect name for the job, Webb has no prior superhero experience. (Hey, I saw Darkman and that was more of a science experiment that a superhero.) Then again, neither did Sam Raimi. And Chris Nolan was the director of Memento when he signed on for Batman Begins
