By: April Meneghetti Matt Reeves has closed a deal to direct “ The Batman .” Reeves took over the reins as director after Ben Affleck stepped aside to focus on starring as the Caped Crusader. Reeves will also produce the movie. News broke last week that negotiations had collapsed, but that there was a strong possibility that they could resume. WB had offered Reeves the directing gig two weeks ago after Affleck exited the film. Sources stressed last week that it was a priority for the studio to sign a helmer as soon as possible in order to move the pre-production forward. “I have loved the Batman story since I was a child,” Reeves said. “He is such an iconic and compelling character, and one that resonates with me deeply. I am incredibly honored and excited to be working with Warner Bros. to bring an epic and emotional new take on the Caped Crusader to the big screen.” Reeves, Affleck, and the studio can now focus on moving the film into production and begin casting. Despite the dramatic, fog machine-aided setting, the assorted members of the Justice League almost could be lining up for school picture day in this new image. Still, take a look at Ben Affleck's Batman, Gal Gadot's Wonder Woman, Ray Fisher's Cyborg, Ezra Miller's The Flash and Jason Momoa's Aquaman in the latest still above. Ben Affleck's The Accountant is another welcomed shot-in-the-arm, a wild but intelligent action film that features a great cast, some terrific comedy, and matches our need for amazing violence and solid storytelling. This action-thriller's premise is fairly unique: a high-function autistic child becomes the hugely successful accountant/soldier Christian Wolff (Affleck) who's worked with some of the top bad guys to clean up their books. We've seen several images of the main heroes in Justice League , but thus far Mera, queen of Atlantis (played by Amber Heard ), has been more of a mystery. That changes today, as IGN has nabbed a look at the queen as she appears in the movie, along with a costume sketch and concept art that show how her look evolved. See all the images after the Jump... Mera in the comic book love interest of Jason Momoa's Aquaman and the ruler of Atlantis (or future queen in some titles). She first appeared in the DC canon in 1963 and she has powers of her own, including the ability to control water. What she'll be doing in the movie is anyone's guess at this point, but she's Aquaman's wife and will be part of the action. Ben Affleck has given us a critical detail about his upcoming standalone Batman movie: the title. "The movie I think is going to be called ‘ The Batman ,’" Affleck told the Associated Press during the press junket for "The Accountant" (opening October 13). "At least that’s what we’re going with right now. I might change it… That’s about all I got right now. We’re working on the script, the script is going well, I’m really excited about it.” Not much is known about "The Batman" project, for which Affleck will return as The Dark Knight after playing the character in "Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice" (and providing a cameo for "Suicide Squad"). He is also directing the Batman movie and writing the screenplay.
