Here's What We Like & Hate About Agents Of SHIELD.

Here's what we like and hate about Agents of SHIELD. By: MattInRC The Verdict: Three weeks in, and our show's sporting too many cracks in their armor. There's a lot to love about Marvel Studios right now: one could call them the (Mad) titan of promotion, or the Green Rage Monster in the room. All borrowing of Marvel properties aside, we can't help but be consistently impressed with how this studio has promoted itself and keeps the buzz going week after week. So imagine our surprise when the first episode of their new television series Agents of SHIELD debuted three weeks ago; our verdict was 'cautiously optimistic,' happy to see it on the air but worried about casting and rumors of terrible upcoming scripts. When ABC announced this week that they were ordering a full season, we decided to weigh in on what's been working so far and what needs improvement. Sadly, our attitude towards the series has become decidedly worse. What Works From plenty of

Hollywood's Positive Month Doesn't Cure The Patient's Long-Term Issues. By: MattInRC

Hollywood's Positive Month Doesn't Cure The Patient's Long-Term Issues. By: MattInRC Back in late March, we reviewed the top box office performers year-to-date but also lamented about Hollywood's continued domestic woes . Among the bad news we reported at that time: As of March 30th, the industry (compounded monthly) was down a staggering 63%; Five of the top 10 films were leftover releases from 2012; April was similarly terrible, reflecting a 12% loss from 2012 - at $634,100,000 - with a compounded-monthly loss of 75%; The market hasn't seen such poor performances since 2011. These bits of data could have created bad omens for the Summer 2013 schedule, which does not have an Avengers, Dark Knight Rises, or Skyfall (all of which made $2 billion domestically) to lead the charge. But, we did have several intriguing releases such as Star Trek: Into Darkness , Fast Six , and Iron Man 3 . So, how did the critical month of May fair for Hollywood? A

The Numbers So Far: Top Domestic Movies Of 2013

The Numbers So Far: Top Domestic Movies Of 2013 By: MattInRC With the first three months of 2013's box office in the can, how does it match up to 2012? Read on to find out! As the first quarter of 2013 draws to a close, we've been keeping a watchful eye on what's turned into one of the worst for the film industry since 2008. Even though Hollywood in 2012 churned out some of the best films in recent memory, such as Lincoln , Argo , and Avengers , a big question was already developing that took three months to answer. In a year that ended with nothing less than Zero Dark Thirty , The Hobbit , and Django Unchained, would audiences return en masse in early 2013? The answer wasn't fully clear until March, leading us to report that profits in February were down as much as 24% , with many wondering if this month could turn things around. So, did how did Hollywood fare in the first quarter? In a word: dismally. According to our friends at BoxOfficeMojo , Hollywood

Jessica Chastain Could Join Iron Man 3

Deadline is reporting that Jessica Chastain is back in the mix to play a starring role opposite Robert Downey Jr in Iron Man 3 . The role is a sexy scientist every bit as smart as Tony Stark. Chastain, who last year starred in T he Tree of Life, The Help, Take Shelter and The Debt , was originally offered the role but it looked like she was going to be preoccupied making a movie with Joel Edgerton and Samantha Morton. I think that movie was The Disappearance of Eleanor Rigby. She also had scheduling issues involving the Kathryn Bigelow-directed Sony Pictures film about the hunt for Osama Bin Laden. Marvel then began lining up meetings with actresses like Diane Kruger, Gemma Arterton and Isla Fisher . But all that has changed as Chastain’s movie has been pushed, the Bin Laden scheduling was worked out, and it looks like she’s going to get the role after all. She will join Downey, Gwyneth Paltrow, Don Cheadle, and potentially Guy Pearce and Ben Kingsley in the third installment of

Ben Kingsley Vs Iron Man?

Though most of the recent Marvel hoopla has been about the impending arrival of Avengers Assemble, no one should forget that we have a third Iron Man outing scheduled to start shooting in May. But while the film already has a co-writer / director in Shane Black and a built-in hero in Robert Downey Jr’s Tony Stark, nothing has been revealed about any possible villains. But now we know that Ben Kingsley is in final talks to play a bad guy. Which one? Fans of the comic shouldn’t immediately leap to the conclusion that he's the Mandarin, since Marvel and Disney are naturally staying quiet over the details. Quick pre-spoiler warning for the next chunk, since no one knows for sure if the plot points mentioned will crop up, but just in case… Rumours have spread since March and Latino Review's report that Tony will get involved with nanobot technology, as seen in Warren Ellis’ 2005 six-issue Extremis comic book run. The high-tech solution turns Stark into the walking embodiment

Marvel and Sony's Impact At The Brand Licensing Expo

Marvel and Sony's Impact At The Brand Licensing Expo The Brand Licensing Europe event is going on in London’s Olympia, Selling Big name Franchises. So what is the presence of Marvel and Sony on the floor? At the Brand Licensing Exhibition in London today, the Iron Man 2, Avengers and Thor movies were being promoted to potential licensees. Marvel didn’t have much of a presence per se but instead had a massive Stark Industries booth with the five Iron Man suits from San Diego and a bunch of Stark Industries security guards. It’s worth noting that both Iron Man 2 and Thor are being promoted with an “Avengers Assemble” tag. They are so going to milk the tie-ins here. The Thor logo is chunky, and stone-like, very different from the image above seen previously, while the Avengers logo is similar but uses a greyed out Captain America-like shield. And elsewhere in the show, while Sony were trying to hide it from certain preying eyes, it seems official, there is a Ghostbusters 3 movie being

Hulk's Edward Norton Keeps Quiet about reprising his role in Avengers

Hulk's Edward Norton Keeps Quiet about reprising his role in Avengers. With The Avengers gearing up while three Marvel character films— Iron Man 2, Thor and The First Avenger: Captain America —are in the works, Marvel Studios president of production Kevin Feige didn't even know if the Incredible Hulk would be part of the ultimate team-up. Edward Norton played Bruce Banner in the reboot, The Incredible Hulk, , and the actor gave a careful "no comment" when asked if he would reprise the role in The Avengers . "I probably won't comment on that just because they keep a pretty tight rein on what they are letting out," Norton said in a group interview today in Pasadena, Calif., where he was promoting the documentary By the People: The Election of Barack Obama as part of the Television Critics Association summer press tour. Deferring to Marvel suggests a
