Linda Hamilton Returning To The Terminator Franchise

She’ll be back. THR is reporting after waving hasta la vista, baby, more than 25 years ago, Linda Hamilton is returning to the world of Terminator, reuniting with James Cameron, the creator of the sci-fi franchise, for the new installment being made by Skydance and Paramount. Cameron made the announcement at a private event celebrating the storied franchise, saying, "As meaningful as she was to gender and action stars everywhere back then, it’s going to make a huge statement to have that seasoned warrior that she’s become return." With Hamilton’s return, Cameron hopes to once again make a statement on gender roles in action movies. "There are 50-year-old, 60-year-old guys out there killing bad guys,” he said, referring to aging male actors still anchoring movies, “but there isn’t an example of that for women.” Tim Miller, the filmmaker who made his breakout feature debut with Deadpool, is directing the sequel, which is returning to its roots by having the in

The Terminator Films Can Not Be Terminated

Just because Arnold Schwarzenegger has purportedly bid adieu to the legendary franchise doesn’t necessarily mean The Terminator is dead – far from it, in fact, with Skydance head honcho David Ellison revealing to Collider that the series has “an incredibly bright future.” Not only that, but Ellison went on to tease a major franchise announcement for 2017, indicating that James Cameron and Tim Miller’s nebulous reboot may well be further along than many had anticipated. That’s merely conjecture for now, though, considering that we only learned of said revival two months ago. Couple this with Cameron’s ongoing commitment to his 27 Avatar sequels and one would assume that it’s still too early in the project’s lifecycle to warrant an announcement. Even still, while chatting to Collider , Ellison stressed that this news “is the direction [ The Terminator ] needs to head,” which is exciting in and of itself. After scrapping plans for a trilogy of Genisys movies, Skydance has evidently

Looks Like We Will Get Another Terminator Film

Deadline is reporting James Cameron , who regains certain rights to his prized creation The Terminator in 2019, is godfathering a new iteration of the film that might finally get it right in drawing a close in the battle between humans and Skynet. Sources said that Cameron, whose copyright reversion happens 35 years after the release of the 1984 classic, is in early talks with Deadpool director and VFX wiz Tim Miller to direct a reboot and conclusion of one of cinema’s great science fiction tales. David Ellison, whose Skydance co-financed Terminator Genisys, is bankrolling an exploratory effort that includes engaging some top-flight science fiction authors to find the movie creatively. Ellison still holds many Terminator rights, after his 2013 acquisition from sister and Annapurna principal Megan Ellison. She bought them in 2011 at Cannes for $20 million. This is the latest development in an ongoing saga. Indeed, The Terminator might have endured the craziest road of any billion-

Sylvester Stallone Confirms Expendables 4 Is Happening

With the news of a developing TV series, it looked as if The Expendables ' cinema career may have ended at part three. Not so, according to Sylvester Stallone , who over the weekend confirmed December's rumors that Expendables 4 was underway. Stallone told his Facebook followers that he's about to start working out for "the next Expendables, [which is] gonna be great, fingers crossed! We're gonna do our best and I think we've got some really great attitude going, some great ideas. I think everyone's expecting something different and we're gonna give it to 'em." The last we officially heard about the film was in October, 2015, when studio Nu Image announced that a fourth instalment had been made possible by Chinese funding. Almost half of Expendables 3's total worldwide box office haul of $200m came from China, with a relatively meagre $40m from the States. "What seems to work in their favour in China, is that these movies are

Terminator Sequel Gets Terminated

After the disappointing box office results for Terminator Genisys last year, there was a lot of talk of recalibrating the attempted new trilogy. Now it appears Paramount is ready to put the brakes on even harder, removing the planned second film from its release schedule. The next Terminator film, which didn't have a confirmed cast, director or writers, but had been hoping to kick off shooting this year, had been sitting on the company's schedule in the prime early summer slot of May 19, 2017. Hopes had been high that Genisys would launch a revived Terminator franchise, but the critical reaction and the low turnout ($89 million in the US, with a slightly healthier worldwide response thanks partly to China) didn't instill confidence. There may well still be movement on the Terminator front, especially as the rights revert to creator James Cameron in 2019, but for now Arnie and co. are in timeline limbo. Still, Terminator's loss is Baywatch's gain, as the film ve

First Images From Kindergarten Cop 2

Of all the blockbusters heading our way in 2016, we know the one you're most looking forward to is Kindergarten Cop 2 , starring the mighty Dolph Lundgren . So it's with no deficit of Christmas cheer that we bring you this handful of new stills and a new synopsis. See all the images after the Jump... It's 25 years since Arnold Schwarzenegger first went undercover at a nursery and yelled at some kids as Detective John Kimble. This time it's Dolph, playing a different undercover cop - Agent Reed - who has to infiltrate a different kindergarten to recover a flash drive containing sensitive information stolen from the Witness Protection Programme. Reed must deal not only with the kids, but also the school's "politically correct environment" as the Albanian bad-guys close in. Damn that political correctness. Curse those Albanians. This isn't the first time Dolph has appeared in a sequel to a film that first starred a fellow Expendable.

#Terminator Franchise Is Still Alive

Back before the film came out, Paramount and its producing partners were so confident in the new Terminator entry, Genisys , that they announced sequel dates for not one but two films. Then Genisys landed with a wet thud and that idea seemed to collapse like a T-1000 in molten metal. But according to one of the producers via TheWrap , Skydance Pictures’ Dana Goldberg, the whole idea of a continuing franchise has not been scrapped. “I wouldn’t say on hold, so much as re-adjusting,” she said Tuesday at The Wrap’s 6th Annual Media Leadership Conference, addressing the fact that the sequels were just part of the plan, with a TV show also in development. “At Skydance, when we talk movies, we talk universes, even more than franchises. So the idea of a Terminator TV show fits into that universe. All the steps have to be taken in unison.” And though the box office returns in the US and several other countries weren’t exactly something to sing about, the studio and Skydance are taking th

Should The Terminator Franchise Be Terminated?

Soft returns for the movie and release dates set for two sequels confound Paramount and Skydance as "bubble" movies — not flops, not quite megahits — require tough decisions: "Sometimes you are left scratching your head." He'll be back. Or will he? In September 2014, David Ellison's Skydance Productions and Paramount boldly dated the next two installments in the rebooted Terminator franchise for 2017 and 2018, even though the first film in the planned trilogy,  Terminator: Genisys , was 10 months from opening. But now Genisys , which cost $155 million to produce and tens of millions more to market, is underperforming at the box office -- it had earned only $80.6 million domestically and nearly $200 million overseas as of July 19 -- underscoring the tough decisions franchise-mad studios face with what might be called "bubble" movies, decent performers whose returns don't trigger an automatic sequel but whose backers aren't quite ready

Movie Review: 'Terminator Genisys'

Terminator Genisys seeks a revisionist tone while slapping its hardcore fans in the face. Review by Matt Cummings There's a new trend in Hollywood these days: the expand-quel, either telling stories around the main plot ( 300: Rise of an Empire ), forgetting huge chunks of its filmography ( Jurassic World ), or establishing their universe in an alternate reality (2009's Star Trek ). The results have been less than consistent, dividing fans in an effort to pack in audiences hungry for nostalgia. And while Terminator Genisys has plenty of that, it still utterly fails to do anything new, different, or even moderately interesting. In a dystopian future run by murderous machines, mankind is about to strike back. Led by the hero John Connor (Jason Clarke), he and friend Kyle Reese (Jai Courtney) learn that their victory is short-lived, as another Terminator has been sent back in time to alter history once again. When Reese is sent back to 1984 expecting to help a f
