Jessica Chastain is in negotiations to star in New Line’s “ It ” sequel as the adult version of Beverly, sources tell Variety . Director Andy Muschietti is back to direct. Gary Dauberman will pen the script. Beverly was played by Sophia Lillis in the 2017 horror hit. Sources stress that negotiations are early and that the script is still being worked on, but both sides have officially begun discussing her coming on to the project. Bill Skarsgard is also expected to return as Pennywise. The sequel will bow on Sept. 6, 2019, with production expected to start this summer. Chastain has been linked to the sequel for some time following its monster opening weekend, as the Muschiettis mentioned her in an interview with Variety as a top choice to play adult Beverly in the sequel. THR is reporting Michael Fassbender and David Hasselhoff have already been cast in the buzzy follow-up to David Sandberg's cult 2015 action-comedy short, which Bloom is introducing to buyers in Berlin. In what sounds like a match made in '80s heaven, Arnold Schwarzenegger has joined the cast of Kung Fury , the feature-length follow-up to the cult 2015 short. The Terminator, Predator and Total Recall icon (and former California governor) will play the American president in David Sandberg's action-comedy, set to shoot in Europe and in the U.S. this summer. He joins fellow '80s hero David Hasselhoff and Oscar-nominated actor Michael Fassbender, who were announced earlier this week. The original Kung Fury is a cheesy and comically OTT homage to '80s martial arts and police action films. Anne Hathaway is in negotiations to star in “ Mudbound ” director Dee Rees’ “ The Last Thing He Wanted ,” based on the Joan Didion political thriller. Elevated’s Cassian Elwes will produce and The Fyzz Facility’s Wayne Marc Godfrey and Robert Jones will produce and finance. Bloom is introducing the project to buyers in Berlin. Marco Villalobos penned the screenplay, which is “a thrilling story of one woman, alone and unrelenting in a race against time,” according to a statement. Elwes (“Dallas Buyers Club”) optioned the book from Didion to develop it with Rees following their collaboration on “Mudbound,” which received four Academy Award nominations, including one for Rees for adapted screenplay. The film, which is in pre-production, centers on hardscrabble journalist Elena McMahon who finds herself on dangerous ground as the Iran Contra Affair’s arms for drugs plot reaches its tipping point.
