THE EYES OF MY MOTHER Opening December 2nd

Francisca has been unfazed by death from an early age—her mother, formerly a surgeon in Portugal, imbued her with a thorough understanding of the human anatomy. When tragedy shatters her family’s idyllic life in the countryside, her deep trauma gradually awakens some unique curiosities. As she grows up, her desire to connect with the world around her takes a distinctly dark form. Shot in crisp black and white, the haunting visual compositions of THE EYES OF MY MOTHER evoke its protagonist’s isolation and illuminate her deeply unbalanced worldview. Genre-inflected but so strikingly unique as to defy categorization, writer/director Nicolas Pesce’s stunning feature debut allows us only an elliptical presence in Francisca’s world, guiding our imaginations to follow her into peculiar, secret places. Produced by Max Born, Jacob Wasserman and Schuyler Weiss. Executive produced by Antonio Campos (CHRISTINE), Sean Durkin (MARTHA MARCY MAY MARLENE) and Josh Mond (JAMES WHITE). Pleas

THE SPACE BETWEEN US RELEASE DATE CHANGE

Blu-ray Review: #TheSecretLifeOfPets

The gorgeous-looking The Secret Life of Pets feels strangely familiar, but is entirely adorable. Review by Matt Cummings As a pet owner and failed foster parent to three kittens (my wife and I actually kept all three), it goes without saying that my curiosity in The Secret Life of Pets went far above the cinematography, the animation, or really anything else. I just wanted to see what pets do - and think about - while their overlord oppressor goes to work. And while strangely familiar to the original Toy Story , this one more than makes up for it in cuteness and spectacular animation. The home release sports excellent video, audio, and a near-perfect set of extras, minus no director commentary. The Movie - 4/5 Among the hustle and bustle of New York City, the pets who reside with their owners are supposed to live docile, predictable lives: eat and sleep, repeat as necessary. But for Max (voiced by Louis C.K.), he's the king of his domain and apartment complex. He

Movie Review: #MOANA Enjoyable!

Enjoyable! But it's way too Disney Rama is here again with another review. If there’s such a crime for being too Disney, MOANA would be guilty of it. Now, before you attack me with torches and pitchforks, let me say that I enjoy this film, but in the traditional Disney animation sense, it really doesn’t get more generic or more formulaic than MOANA. Directed by the team who gave us “The Little Mermaid,” “Aladdin,” “Hercules,” and “The Princess And The Frog,” Ron Clements and John Musker this time take us to the islands of oceania, across the vast pacific where a teenager named Moana, wonderfully voiced by newcomer Auli’i Cravalho, dreams of voyaging across the open sea, just like her people’s ancestors did. Her father however, the head chief, doesn’t want that for his daughter, he wants her safe. But under the guidance of her late grandmother, Moana decides to venture off in order to find the demigod Maui, voiced by Dwayne Johnson, who years ago stole a certain object tha

Movie Review: #Allied

Allied isn't quite the Oscar lock that we were hoping. Review by Matt Cummings There's a moment in Director Robert Zemeckis' Allied when Marion Cotillard's character turns to husband-to-be Brad Pitt and utters, "I keep the emotions real. That's why it works." Sadly, Zemeckis fails to listen to his own script, crafting a fairly dull spy thriller that really isn't all that thrilling, or tense, and generates exactly zero heat between the couple or even in its final scene. WWII operative Max (Pitt) is paired with the steamy Marianne (Cotliard) in an assassination operation in Morocco, finding love that sees Marianne moving to London to become a mom after the mission is completed. But when Max later learns that Marianne might be a German spy, he fights to both discover the truth and protect his family from having to make an impossible decision: assassinate his own wife. For all the glamour behind Allied , Zemeckis doesn't exactly push
