Now that Sony has set Spider-Man on its rebooted path, the studio is setting its sights on other Spider-Man franchises. Case in point: Venom . Sony has tapped Dante Harper to pen a script for Venom , something that is being envisioned as a franchise apart from and unrelated to the upcoming Spider-Man movie in the works with actor Tom Holland . Avi Arad and Matt Tolmach, among stewards of the Spider-Man properties, are producing and overseeing the project. Venom is one of Marvel’s top villains and a Spider-Man fixture since he was introduced in 1988, created by writer David Michelinie and artists Todd McFarlane and Mike Zeck. The character is an alien symbiote that needs a human host to survive. In return, the alien empowers its victim with incredible powers. For the longest time, Venom was a villain but then morphed into an antihero and even (almost) good guy. The unfortunate constant running through the efforts of filmmakers to adapt Neil Gaiman's Sandman graphic novels has been a revolving door of writers, directors, producers and studios. The project is undergoing another switch, as Joseph Gordon-Levitt has left the version he was developing with New Line. Despite this representing a clear passion project for the actor/producer, who set his version up in 2013 and had hoped to direct and star in the eventual movie, he's hit Facebook to announce that he decided to move on a while ago. "A few months ago, I came to realize that the folks at New Line and I just don't see eye to eye on what makes Sandman special, and what a film adaptation could/should be," the pertinent portion of his post reads. "So unfortunately, I decided to remove myself from the project. I wish nothing but the best for the team moving forward." According to Deadline Sony and Marvel Studios are beginning to cast up their Spider-Man reboot. Actress-singer Zendaya has landed a key role in the ensemble they are building around Tom Holland , who’ll play Peter Parker/Spider-Man in the film to be directed by Jon Watts (Cop Car). She was among the actresses who’ve quietly been testing for roles, and I hear she will play a character named Michelle. THR is reporting The Justice League has found its Commissioner Gordon. Oscar winner J.K. Simmons has been cast as the Gotham City police commissioner. Justice League, which will be directed by Zack Snyder, sees heroes Batman ( Ben Affleck ), Superman ( Henry Cavill ), Wonder Woman ( Gal Gadot ), Aquaman ( Jason Momoa ), The Flash ( Ezra Miller ) and Cyborg ( Ray Fisher ) teaming up to combat a threat beyond each member's capabilities. Chris Terrio wrote the screenplay for Justice League, which will be released in two parts by Warner Bros. It's produced by Charles Roven, Zack Snyder and Deborah Snyder. Justice League: Part One will start shooting in mid-April. It's slated for release on Nov 17, 2017 while Part Two will hit theaters on June 14, 2019.
