January 2015 Movies On Our Radar

Is January the month where films go to die? You decide in our January preview! Story by Matt Cummings After an incredibly busy month of December that saw no less than 12 interesting flicks go for our hard-earned dollars , January arrives with a distinctly "Don't forget about us!" feel. January has usually been the month where films go to die, cast off to the Island of Misfit Toys after entertaining earlier Oct-Dec releases. The reality: most of these will flop, some will linger around like Jay and Silent Bob, while others will make a profit and actually lead in the box office until around March. This year might be a different story, with one of the most anticipated slate of films in recent memory. For now. we're holding to our theory but for now there are a few that could be interesting. Our list includes a talking bear, a computer hacker, a sniper, and the end of Bryan Mills. Welcome to our January 2015 movie preview! January 6 Taken 3 Plot

Jennifer Blanc-Biehn Shines in Scrappy "Everly" , Out in February Actress/filmmaker Jennifer Blanc-Biehn is starting off 2015 with a bang, taking on a meaty role in Dimension Films’ action-horror film Everly , starring Salma Hayek and directed by horror filmmaker Joe Lynch. Everly is available on iTunes and VOD January 23rd, with a theater release February 27th. Blanc plays Dena, a prostitute that corners Hayek in her apartment for a showdown in the holiday-themed killing spree adventure that brings out Blanc-Biehn’s inner Ninja, who did her own stunts in the film. “Playing Dena was fun because I got to bring all that anger to the surface and really let go,” said Blanc. “She’s a fierce, woman and I enjoyed the opportunity to get to play her and work with Joe Lynch, Salma and so many involved." The gore-fest, which screened in September at Austin’s Fantastic Fest, takes place entirely on the floor of an apartment building, as Hayek – the target of a very

Director Neill Blomkamp , who has brought us films such as District 9 and Elysium , was developing an Alien film, but has apparently scrapped work on the project. It would have been part of the same franchise from Ridley Scott and James Cameron , and we have some concept art to share with you that shows how cool it would have looked. Blomkamp revealed the news himself on his Instagram page along with several illustrations that were done for it. I've included the notes from the director that came along with each piece of art. The first one you see above came with the following caption: "Was working on this. Don't think I am anymore. Love it though. #alien #xenomorph" He also posted the following comments on Twitter: "Ps this has nothing to do with the studio. I just feel like I might do something else instead. In which case why not show some work- See all the images after the Jump... Please Leave A Comment- S

2014 Box Office Wrap Up: Highs and Too Many Lows

We reflect at some of the biggest box office developments from 2014 and theorize how they might affect 2015. Story by Matt Cummings With all the movie highs ( Captain America: The Winter Solider , Guardians of the Galaxy , and Mockingjay, Part 1 ), there were a lot of lows to report, beginning with the bottom line: numbers. According to our friends at BoxOficeMojo.com, the 2014 domestic box office was down 5.3% from 2013, taking in $10.347 billion. It's also the lowest number for the past 5 years, with 2011 being the only competitor at $10.174 billion. But the misery doesn't end there. July totaled a paltry $966 million, which is down 30 percent from last July and marked the first time since 2002 in which a July fell short of selling $1 billion in tickets. But 2014 also failed to boast a $400m film, something that hasn't happened since 2011. Numbers like these can get confusing for films released in November, with their totals seemingly divided between 2

Big Movie Questions - Q4 Report

As 2014 comes to a close, we look back at several movie questions we've posed throughout the year. Story by Matt Cummings The fourth quarter of the movie season is much like the holiday season: theaters crowded with customers and Hollywood licking its chops in hopes for strong returns. As 2014 has unfolded, it's clear that Hollywood's business plan was not as strong as one would have hoped, showing off a great Q1, a good Q2, and a frankly awful Q3. And while the year has delivered the great ( Captain America: The Winter Solider and The LEGO Movie ), the very good ( The Hunger Games: Mockingjay, Part 1 ), and the surprising ( Guardians of the Galaxy ), several of our Big Movie Questions were yet to be answered. With the holidays wrapping up, we can close out 2014 by unwrapping the rest of our gifts. We've collected all the questions we've asked this year into one article so you don't have to look back to see them all. Welcome to our 2014 Big Movie Q
