BOB MARLEY: ONE LOVE Featurette

TV Recap: True Blood "Fire In The Hole"

TV Recap: True Blood "Fire In The Hole" By: suepafly In LA, Sarah Newlin, or rather New-me finds her new self through a little yoga, meditation, and rocking some brunette locks. That’s great and all, but that little intro was a little overly long, we’ve only got some many minutes left. It’s time for some bad things. Pam questions how long Eric has been sick, and he’s slow to respond. It’s been about a month since he’s been in St. Peteresburg, and Pam really hates the Russians. Eric feigns that he didn’t know Pam would come looking for him, as if. But he kept on moving to avoid detection, but she outwitted him, only because he’s unwell he tells her. She breaks the news to him that she felt Tara meet the true death while she was in Morocco, and all he can do is ask if she played the bucket game, which she did. He likes that game, but he’s such a Debbie downer, totally un-Eric Northman like. Pam isn’t ready to throw in the towel on him yet. Godric, Nora, and soon Eric too

TV Recap: Salem "Ashes, Ashes"

TV Recap: Salem "Ashes, Ashes" By: Suepafly Among the corpses Mercy walks. The vermin eat the flesh, and Mercy has gone off the deep end. She looks at a young child unfit for burial in the cemetary, a mother who died in child birth, and the baby smothered to cover up the sin. She is the mother of all the dead. Her father said that there is no purgatory, but Earth is purgatory. Mary tells her that she is no ghost, she is more alive than any of them, but Increase will not look for her here among the dead. Mercy asks of her girls. Increase has four of them, but the Grand Rite will cleanse the land. Mary assures her that her, her girls and her children will have a place in the land. Mercy asks what is coming, and Mary shows her the apple. Death is coming. Cotton sees the land as rotten due to a rotten apple, the Malleum. It will bring about death on a massive scale, but they know nothing of the ritual that will unleash it. Cotton believes that he has finally put together e

TV Review: The Leftovers “Penguin One, Us Zero”

TV Review: The Leftovers “Penguin One, Us Zero” By: Brandon Wolfe The pilot episode of ‘ The Leftovers ’ proved to be an exceptionally divisive one. While some were instantly taken with its enigmatic debut, many others found it confoundingly vague. I fell somewhere in the middle, enticed by the eeriness of its post-Rapture (or is it?) world, yet recognizing that many blank spots still needed to be filled in. The second episode finds me shifting my position nearer to the frustrated portion of the viewing audience. As ‘The Leftovers’ begins to color in its world, which in itself is interesting on a conceptual level, the feeling starting to spring up is that maybe the handful of characters designated for us to follow is simply not interesting enough to match it. Take Liv Tyler’s Meg Abbott, for instance. Last week, she was stalked by the Guilty Remnant cult and, without explanation, had opted to join up with them by episode’s end. This week, she is put through an orientation t

IFC Films "#Infliction" Review

Looking at the DVD jacket for ‘ Infliction ’, my heart sank. Over an image of several VHS cassettes, the logline reads “In 2011, two brothers documented their murder spree in North Carolina. This is the actual assembled footage,” and my instant assumption was that this was going to be another sickening torture-fest, with the found-footage format employed to show us all manner of horrible atrocities committed toward helpless victims. It was a relief to find that ‘Infliction’ doesn’t actually count itself among the ranks of ‘Saw’, ‘Hostel’ and all their torture-porn brethren. Though there are of course murders, the film doesn’t set out to thrill us with the sight of some poor schlep’s agony as his jaw is torn off while he’s tied to a chair. Its aim is something else entirely, and while it isn’t particularly successful at what it sets out to do, I was at least grateful for what it wasn’t. This is the story of John and Kenny Stiles (Jason Mac and Elliott Armstrong), a pair of brothers w

Obvious Child Review: A Little Gem Amongst Standard Summer Fare

The abortion comedy Obvious Child is as genuinely sweet as it is totally disgusting. Independent films are a tough act to sell, especially during the summer months, when our minds are filled with robots, monsters, superheroes, and brainless assembly-line comedies. But that doesn't mean this world of low-budget fare should be ignored. The independent comedy Obvious Child is just such a little gem, ready to win you over with its wit and heart, even if its actors aren't exactly A-Listers. Donna Stern (Jenny Slate) has just lost her job at a Brooklyn bookstore, and her effort to make it big as a comedian isn't working out too well either. It's in this fertile environment for really bad decision-making that Donna meets Max (Jake Lacy), and after several drinks the two find themselves in the throws of unprotected sexual bliss. But evenings like these usually come at a price, and Donna soon learns that she's pregnant. Faced with a tough decision but too e
