TV Review : True Detective “After You've Gone”

TV  Review  : True Detective  “After You've Gone” By Brandon Wolfe With the flashback/interrogation structure officially put to bed, we’re now firmly in the 2012 portion of the story. Rust has successfully managed to convince Marty to have a beer with him, where he attempts to recruit his former partner back into the investigation that has bedeviled them over the past couple of decades. Marty, as ever, thinks Rust is a kook and wants no part of the tree that he continues to bark up, but Rust, alluding to the debt Marty still owes him from the Ledoux cover-up, gets him to come at least as far as the mysterious storage unit that Rust guards so closely. The unit, it turns out, is a de facto office space that Rust has made his base of operations in the Tuttle investigation, and it’s there that Rust lays out his case to Marty. At first, Rust offers intriguing but thin missing-persons data to an unimpressed Marty, but his argument grows more compelling when he reveals that

TV Recap: The Walking Dead "Still'"

TV Recap: The Walking Dead "Still'" By: Sue Our group of survivors are still separated, likely for another episode or so, but they're slowly converging on the same point of "safety," or at least some of them are. Am I the only one who is tired of the separation and just wants to see the gang back together? And a few members lighter? Daryl and Beth are still running around the forest. For some reason Daryl has set aside his super tracking skills, and stopped looking for the other survivors. Maybe its the huge horde of walkers they've come up against, that stopped the search. They find themselves in need of a little getaway, and a trunk seems like as good a spot as ever. A little jerry-rigging and the trunk becomes a safe haven. Daryl's bandanna is almost as good as duck tape in all its handy uses. They hide away while the super herd rolls past them. Come morning the walkers have gone, but the pair remain in the trunk until they deem it safe. They

Dark House Review: B-Slasher Flick Could Have Been Better

Dark House Review By: Matt Cummings The B-movie slasher Dark House isn't so bad - but it could have been better. For many years, the B-slasher genre has been plagued by poor acting and low-budget gore, failing to garner the attention of mass audiences. Dark House proves that the latter is no longer a hindrance, but also demonstrates that the genre is getting closer to respectability. Nick ( Luke Kleintank ) has a unique gift: he can see a person's death merely by touching them. He knows how his mother (who checked herself into a mental institution) will die, but has never met his father. When his mother suddenly dies - exactly the way he had foreseen - Nick learns that not only is his father alive but that he may hold the key to understanding Nick's origin. He sets out with his pregnant girlfriend Eve ( Alex McKenna ) and his best friend Ray ( Anthony Rey Perez ) to uncover the truth, only to find that a dilapidated mansion from his distant memory holds the key t

6 (or 7) Movies On Our Radar - March 2014

By: Matt Cummings These are the March films which should get you to the theaters. After a surprisingly strong Winter movie season, March arrives with an intriguing lineup that feels more like something we'd see in Summer. Over the past few years, March has been interesting in that it seems more like a roll-out month than a leech, ready to usher in a strong April that ultimately leads us to Summer. That's good or bad depending on how you look at it, but one thing is for sure: there are a surprising amount of high profile releases that could either become impressive money-makers or duds that will quickly find their way to the Blu-ray bargain bin. For a schedule that includes a second Bible epic, a comic book adaptation, and a Muppet movie, March certainly arrives with six (or seven) movies that have peaked our interest. 300: Rise of an Empire (March 7th)   The original 300 was a masterpiece of cinema: beautifully violent, it ushered in a new way of film-making
