Lee Daniels’ The Butler Rules The Box-Office

In the battle of Oscar-bait vs. comedy ultra violence, it was The But – sorry, Lee Daniels’ The Butler – all the way at the US box office this weekend. Daniels’ fact-based tale of a longstanding White House employee dashed to the top spot with $25 million. Pot smuggling comedy We’re The Millers clung to second place, adding $17.7 million, and last week’s topper, the new Neill Blomkamp sci-fi Elysium, was pushed to third with $13.6 million. Kick-Ass 2 , meanwhile, had to make do with a disappointing fourth place launch and $13.5 million in the bank, which is less than the original managed back in 2010. In fifth we find DisneyToons’ Planes , which increased cinema screens but still dropped in terms of earnings, making $13.1 million. Sixth was Percy Jackson: Sea Of Monsters , which made $8.3 million, ahead of Steve Jobs biopic Jobs , which isn’t exactly enjoying Apple-level success with a $6.7 million opening. 2 Guns was eighth, earning $5.5 million, while The Smurfs 2 dropped to

Joseph Kosinski Enters THE TWILIGHT ZONE

Joseph Kosinski is about to enter The Twilight Zone . The Tron helmer is in negotiations to direct the big-screen redo of the sci-fi property for Warner Bros. Leonardo DiCaprio and Jennifer Davisson Killoran are producing via their Appian Way banner, which is based at Warners. A number of writers have taken a crack at the screenplay, including Anthony Peckham (Sherlock Holmes). The project is now being redeveloped for Kosinski. Plot details are being kept under wraps. Created by Rod Serling, The Twilight Zone began as a TV series that ran for five seasons on CBS from 1959 to 1964. Subsequent TV series were revived in 1985 and 2002. The sci-fi classic, which revolves around paranormal and futuristic storylines, also spawned a 1983 film starring John Lithgow. Scott Bloom is executive producing the new film version. Kosinski most recently directed the Tom Cruise starrer Oblivion for Universal. He is attached to helm a Tron sequel at Disney. Please Leave A Comment- Sourc

New Groovy Image From X-Men: Days Of Future Past

It's a strong sign that Hugh Jackman's Wolverine is cool whatever era he's in that he can pull off the leathers and patterned shirt combo below. Of course, he's helped by Nicholas Hoult's Beast boasting a double-cord get-up and James McAvoy's Professor X letting it all hang low with his new not-all-that-luscious locks, but the fact remains: Logan looks good in a leather jacket. In other words, here's a new X-Men: Days Of Future Past still, and it's super '70s. X-Men: Days Of Future Past finds our heroes struggling to change a dark alternate universe where mutants are captured or killed by Bolivar Trask's ( Peter Dinklage ) giant robot Sentinels. Professor X and Magneto find a way to send Hugh Jackman’s Logan back in time - which explains how Wolvie is with young Hank McCoy and the now wheelchair-bound-but-not-bald Charles Xavier here - where he tracks down and tries to get the younger versions of the X-Men (and the Brotherhood of Mutants) to h

Timur Bekmambetov To Direct Ben-Hur Reboot?

MGM is in talks with Wanted helmer Timur Bekmambetov to helm Ben-Hur , a new adaptation of the 1880 Lew Wallace novel Ben-Hur: A Tale Of The Christ , which in its time outsold every book but The Bible until it was eclipsed by Gone With The Wind . This all got set in motion after MGM bought a Ben-Hur spec by Keith Clarke (he scripted the Peter Weir-directed The Way Back), a package that came with Sean Daniel and Joni Levin attached to produce, and Clarke and Jason Brown exec producing. This happened last January, right after MGM got new funding and was flush with proceeds from the 007 pic Skyfall and The Hobbit. I have been chasing the possible deal with Bekmambetov for the past two weeks, and it seemed intriguing enough as another Biblical epic moving forward that I felt it was worth noting despite the fact they haven’t reached financial terms and I don’t know for certain that they will. MGM actually released the 1959 Charlton Heston-starrer Ben-Hur, as well as the 1925 silent film
