The Spectacular Now Review By: MattInRC The Spectacular Now is...well..utterly unspectacular. As in most industries, critics get attached to projects - it happened last year with the less than satisfying Life of Pi and eventually the much better Argo, denying Lincoln its rightful place as the top film of 2012. After many failed attempts I was finally able to go to a screening of ‘ The Spectacular Now ’ last night! The movie is based off of the book by author Tim Thorpe. I read the book last month with one of the quirky book clubs that I am a part of and in all honestly was not impressed. I was left with a sense of feeling like I needed to “parent” if you will ‘Sutter Keely’ the main character in the story. I gave the book a 3 star rating on good reads, which is kind of low for me considering I usually research my books fairly well and it’s rare that I read a book that I really just don’t love. The " Zero Dark Thirty " star is in talks to play the Egyptian ruler opposite Christian Bale's Moses in the 20th Century Fox film. Joel Edgerton is in talks to star opposite Christian Bale in Ridley Scott's Biblical epic Exodus . The actor, who cemented his in-demand status after a series of high-profile roles including Zero Dark Thirty and The Great Gatsby, would play the Egyptian ruler Ramses in the 20th Century Fox film that is moving toward a September start date. Bale is onboard to portray Moses. Exodus will shoot in Spain, Morocco and England. The project had picked up steam earlier this year when Steve Zaillian came on board to do a rewrite on Adam Cooper and Bill Collage's original draft. Peter Chernin, who bought the project as a pitch, is producing alongside Scott. Both Chernin and Scott are based at Fox, as is Zaillian and Garrett Basch's Film Rites.
