Jennifer Lopez has signed on to join Antonio Banderas in the Chilean miner film The 33 . Mike Medavoy is producing the drama, based on the true story of the 33 Chilean miners who were rescued after being trapped for 69 days in 2010. The film will mark Lopez's first big-screen role since starring opposite Jason Statham in this year's action-thriller Parker . Martin Sheen and Brazilian actor Rodrigo Santoro also have boarded the ensemble film, which was presented to foreign buyers at last month’s Cannes Film Festival. Patricia Riggen (La Misma Luna) is directing from a screenplay written by Mikko Alanne and Jose Rivera, with production scheduled to begin in the fall in Chile. Hansel & Gretel Blu-ray Review By: MattInRC Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters arrives on Blu-ray with excellent video and audio, but is short on supplements. The beginning of the film year is usually filled with driftwood designed to push moviegoers to see Oscar contenders: 2013 bucked that trend in a big way by delivering us excellent fare such as Gangster Squad, Mama, and Warm Bodies. While none turned in exceptional numbers - sending the industry into a tailspin that took until May to overcome - that didn't mean quality was left at the door. Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters was another example, delivering wickedly delicious fun, great action, a tight (albeit short) story, and solid acting by its stars. Its arrival this week onto Blu-ray is a mixed bag but not in the places you'd expect. The East Review By: MattInRC While a welcomed alternative to typical summer movie fare, The East has its issues. The state of Louisiana is beginning to take shape as the southern location of choice for Hollywood. Films like GI Joe: Retaliation, Broken City , and even 2012 Oscar contenders Django: Unchained and Looper had their origins in The Big Easy. The eco-terrorist drama The East was also shot in Louisiana; and while the Brit Marling/Zal Batmanglij production is a nice alternative to superheroes engaging in city-wide redecoration, its faults almost doom the project. The film starts with shocking images from the Deepwater Horizon disaster: scenes of birds covered in oil, with a frighteningly calm voice-over from Izzy ( Ellen Page , Inception), as she and the elusive eco-terrorist group The East assails a corporate executive's house.
