MattInRC's Top 5 Bond Films

With the exception of Star Wars' Darth Vader and Indiana Jones himself, there are few characters in popular culture more iconic than James Bond . Since his first appearance in 1962's Dr. No , fans have flocked to see him woo women while operating some of the most high-tech equipment ever conceived for film. He's been into space, deep underwater, flying high in jets, and grounding things out in a tank. Yet through it all, his martinis remained dry, his women wet, and his audiences glued to the edges of their seats. With the 50th anniversary of Bond now available for purchase, and the recent release of the terrific Skyfall - the best since Goldfinger - we here at SandwichJohnFilms ( MattInRC ), dusted off our top 5 favorite Bond films to see why we keep coming back to this character. Will Sean Connery's instant classic Goldfinger win out over Daniel Craig's revolutionary Casino Royale ? Or will the Pierce Brosnan entry GoldenEye sneak in to take the t

Lincoln Review. Film Is Brilliant

Lincoln Review By: MattInRC Steven Spielberg's Lincoln is brilliant, stirring, and a sure-fire contender for the Oscars. As a middle school history teacher, I am amazed by the interest my students have about the Civil War; every year, they consistently question why 620,000 Americans felt the need to defend their stance on slavery with the ultimate sacrifice. They wonder what kind of a society allowed for the expansion of slavery, and how our nation cleansed itself of the "peculiar institution," as coined by American politicians and pundits throughout the 1860's. With recent articles suggesting the death toll might have topped a staggering 750,000, Hollywood in 2012 has responded with two films about Lincoln, each with its own unique take on his life. The latter, Steven Spielberg's Lincoln, is an emotionally charged, powerf

SKYFALL Review. Best Bond Movie

SKYFALL Review By: MattInRC Skyfall is richly crafted and engrossing, with an ending that solidifies its status among the best Bond movies ever. For those of us who've enjoyed James Bond over the years, there's been one issue haunting his gadget/girls hustler persona - is there a genuine person under those fancy suits and behind the wheel of his Aston Martin? Die Another Day sought to answer that by taking him off the grid, only to leave us with a great first act and an over-the-top third. And while origin tales such as Casino Royale and Quantum of Solace have entertained, our nagging question remained. Skyfall responds by delving deeper into the mythos, blending great storytelling, beautiful women, and an instantly classic bad guy into one of the best Bond movies ever. After a botched MI6 operation in Istanbul over a stolen hard drive containing a NOC list of agents and an ensuing motorcycle chase across the city, James Bond ( Daniel Craig , Layer Cake) fi
