Actress Jena Malone (Sucker Punch) is in the running for the pivotal role of strong-willed tribute Johanna Mason in The Hunger Games: Catching Fire. The character is described in author Suzanne Collins’ best-seller as possessing “a wicked ability to murder,” winning her Hunger Games by pretending to be weak and then picking off the other tributes. One open question about the character is whether director Francis Lawrence will keep Johanna’s introduction from the book, in which she first meets heroine Katniss Everdeen ( Jennifer Lawrence ) naked — save for her green slippers. Malone began her acting career at 12 years old in the acclaimed Showtime movie Bastard out of Carolina and as a young Jodie Foster in the sci-fi drama Contact. A teaser poster Paddington Bear has turned up online, announced some time back, the film will be directed by Paul King with a script by Hamish McColl. The classic Michael Bond series of books tells the story of a talking bear who was adopted by a London family when they find him lost at Paddington Station. Bond published 11 "Paddington" books between 1958 and 1979. They were adapted into a popular BBC animated TV series in the 1970s. The Warner Bros. release, set to be produced by Harry Potter producer David Heyman, will not be adapted from any specific book but will draw inspiration from the whole series. Michael Kenneth Williams has been added to the cast of Twelve Years A Slave . The actor joins Michael Fassbender , Chiwetel Ejiofor and Brad Pitt in the Steve McQueen-directed film. Raising Hope‘s Garret Dillahunt, Paul Dano and SNL’s Taran Killam are also in Twelve Years. Williams, best known for playing Chalky White on HBO’s Boardwalk Empire and Omar Little on The Wire , will play “Robert,” a mutinous slave in Twelve Years.  The film is an adaptation of Solomon Northup’s 1853 book about a free black man who is drugged and dragged to the South to be sold into slavery. New Regency is backing the film. River Road and Plan B are producing. Twelve Years A Slave is filming in New Orleans. Williams is repped by The Collective and attorney Elsa Ramo. That's the question on the minds of ION Television executives, as they enter the ring of professional wrestling for the first time. The cable network has announced a new wrestling show, WWE Main Event , which will feature the popular wrestler Superstars and Divas from Vince McMahon's colorful roster. The one-hour original series will feature all the soapy action popularized on shows like USA Network's Monday Night Raw -- set to expand to three live hours of programming in July -- and Friday Night SmackDown, currently airing on Syfy. Storylines begun on those other shows will be furthered on the new ION series. “ION Television is delighted to begin a new partnership with such a successful and well-recognized franchise as WWE,” Brandon Burgess, CEO, ION Media Networks, says in a statement. “We look forward to introducing our ION audience to all of the excitement and drama WWE has to offer as well as welcoming a passionate new fan base to the network.” WWE Main Event w

Looks like casting is under way for the upcoming NWA film. Director F. Gary Gray twitted this image last week. He is looking for actors and actress to audition for the film. He is also looking for over 100 extras for the film. New Line is developing Straight Outta Compton , an urban drama about N.W.A. (a.k.a. Niggaz With Attitude), the hip hop group that helped pioneer the gangsta rap movement in the ’80s and early ’90s. The project will chronicle the rise and fall of the rap quartet, founded by Eazy-E, Dr. Dre, Ice Cube, and MC Ren, whose songs were so incendiary (i.e. "F— tha Police") they were banned from radio playlists but still sold millions of albums. Then came the inevitable fiery breakup, a grudge match between the former bandmates, and Eazy-E’s tragic death due to AIDS. Angela Bassett is joining the cast of Olympus Has Fallen , Nu Image/Millennium’s White House-set action thriller starring Gerard Butler and Aaron Eckhart . Antoine Fuqua is directing the movie, which is competing with Sony’s White House Down for Die Hard-like movie set in the White House. Butler is an unlikely Secret Service agent trying to stop Korean terrorists who have taken over the White House. Eckhart is playing the president.  Bassett will play the Secret Service director. The script is by first-time scribes Creighton Rothenberger and Katrin Benedikt. Mark Gil, Gerard Butler and Alan Siegel are producing.
