That's the question on the minds of ION Television executives, as they enter the ring of professional wrestling for the first time. The cable network has announced a new wrestling show, WWE Main Event , which will feature the popular wrestler Superstars and Divas from Vince McMahon's colorful roster. The one-hour original series will feature all the soapy action popularized on shows like USA Network's Monday Night Raw -- set to expand to three live hours of programming in July -- and Friday Night SmackDown, currently airing on Syfy. Storylines begun on those other shows will be furthered on the new ION series. “ION Television is delighted to begin a new partnership with such a successful and well-recognized franchise as WWE,” Brandon Burgess, CEO, ION Media Networks, says in a statement. “We look forward to introducing our ION audience to all of the excitement and drama WWE has to offer as well as welcoming a passionate new fan base to the network.” WWE Main Event w

Looks like casting is under way for the upcoming NWA film. Director F. Gary Gray twitted this image last week. He is looking for actors and actress to audition for the film. He is also looking for over 100 extras for the film. New Line is developing Straight Outta Compton , an urban drama about N.W.A. (a.k.a. Niggaz With Attitude), the hip hop group that helped pioneer the gangsta rap movement in the ’80s and early ’90s. The project will chronicle the rise and fall of the rap quartet, founded by Eazy-E, Dr. Dre, Ice Cube, and MC Ren, whose songs were so incendiary (i.e. "F— tha Police") they were banned from radio playlists but still sold millions of albums. Then came the inevitable fiery breakup, a grudge match between the former bandmates, and Eazy-E’s tragic death due to AIDS. Angela Bassett is joining the cast of Olympus Has Fallen , Nu Image/Millennium’s White House-set action thriller starring Gerard Butler and Aaron Eckhart . Antoine Fuqua is directing the movie, which is competing with Sony’s White House Down for Die Hard-like movie set in the White House. Butler is an unlikely Secret Service agent trying to stop Korean terrorists who have taken over the White House. Eckhart is playing the president.  Bassett will play the Secret Service director. The script is by first-time scribes Creighton Rothenberger and Katrin Benedikt. Mark Gil, Gerard Butler and Alan Siegel are producing. If the world were to end in three weeks, how would you spend it? Would you go to work to keep consistency? Maybe spend time with family? SEEKING A FRIEND FOR THE END OF THE WORLD doesn't delve into that question too deeply, but instead lumbers rather weakly through a script that wants to be quirky/serious, yet never finds its rhythm and fails to convince audiences it's worth their time to bother. An asteroid named Matilda is about to hit the Earth, and insurance salesman Dodge ( Steve Carell , 40-Year Old Virgin) has just witnessed his wife leave him to indulge herself in the final days, literally getting out of the car and running off. Back in March, cult star Brad Dourif started the rumour mill grinding by suggesting that both a remake and a new sequel to his killer-doll franchise Child's Play were being mooted. Universal has now gone with the latter option, and announced that Curse Of Chucky is officially a going concern. Child's Play, you'll recall, began its life in 1988, starring Dourif as serial killer Charles Lee "Chucky" Ray, the Lakeshore Strangler whose nifty voodoo abilities meant he was able to transfer his soul into a Cabbage Patch-ish doll before he was shot down by cop Chris Sarandon. Dourif returned to voice Chucky in every subsequent instalment, of which there have been four to date. The series reinvented itself with Ronny Yu's Bride Of Chucky in 1998: a film so mental that it garnered the public approval of John Waters. Christopher Meloni is joining the cast of They Came Together , Lionsgate’s romantic comedy spoof from director David Wain. Paul Rudd and Amy Poehler star as a man and woman who dislike each other, with Rudd's company trying to close down Poehler's candle store. The movie is in casting mode as it eyes a July start, with Ed Helms, Cobie Smulders and Jason Mantzoukas among those already set. Meloni will play Rudd’s boss, the CEO of CorporateCo Corporation and Co., Inc. Wain, director of Role Models and Wanderlust, co-wrote the script with Wet Hot American Summer partner Michael Showalter. Meloni, the former star of TV’s long-running Law & Order: SVU, is appearing on HBO’s True Blood.
