George Tillman, Jr To Direct Miles Davis Film

Notorious helmer George Tillman, Jr . has been hired to develop and direct a feature film about legendary jazz musician Miles Davis , tentatively titled Miles. The late trumpeter's eldest son, Gregory Davis, will consult on the film. A central figure on the music scene for nearly fifty years, Davis was a perpetual innovator who collaborated with many of the jazz greats, from Charlie Parker and John Coltrane to Gil Evans and Thelonious Monk. His addiction to drugs nearly derailed his career, but he persevered as a major influence on other musicians until his death in 1991. Nick Davis Raynes and Ged Dickersin are producing the project, which is loosely based on the book Dark Magus: The Jekyll and Hyde Life of Miles Davis, written by Gregory Davis. Atari's Asteroids Film Is On The Way

Screenwriter Evan Spiliotopoulos has been hired to work on the script for Universal's Asteroids project. The studio outbid other suitors for film rights to the simple, late-'70s Atari video game two years ago. The plotline for the film adaptation has evolved into the story of two estranged brothers that must team up to save Earth from an alien race. Matt Lopez (The Sorcerer's Apprentice) originally worked on the script. Lorenzo di Bonaventura (Transformers: Dark of the Moon) is producing. Universal has Battleship, inspired by a Hasbro board game, hitting theaters in May. Spiliotopoulos worked on the script for the Universal film Snow White and the Huntsman , which hits theaters in June, and he is writing Charles Fort for producer Robert Zemeckis, also set up at Universal. RoboCop Remake To Follow The Original Film

" RoboCop " is currently still in the writing stages of development, but director Jose Padilha has revealed several details relating to the forthcoming remake movie. To IGN, the Brazilian filmmaker shared that his upcoming sci-fi film project will have the same elements from the original " RoboCop " film, which was directed by Paul Verhoeven. "Verhoeven made that film in the '80s, and it was brilliant," so the 44-year-old filmmaker said. "I think some of the humor and the way he dealt with the satire in that film, it's pretty much needed today, don't you think? We've gotta keep that [humor], by all means." Padilha further revealed that he will adapt his remake film primarily from the first "RoboCop" movie. "I think [the original film] is way better than the other ones. As far as grounding our approach in 'RoboCop', we are doing it with the first movie. The first movie is the thing for me, you know?"
