Glee's Lea Michele To Join Cast Of "New Year's Eve"

Glee's Lea Michele To Celebrate "New Year's Eve" Lea Michele is eyeing " New Year's Eve " and is in talks to make her feature film debut in New Line's ensemble comedy. The " Glee " star would be joining a large cast in a spin-off from the New Line comedy " Valentine's Day " with Garry Marshall expected to return as director. "Valentine's Day" producers Mike Karz and Wayne Rice are returning as well as screenwriter Katherine Fugate. The story -- with some of the same characters from "Valentine's Day" -- would be set in New York City on New Year's Eve. New Line has set Dec. 9, 2011 as the release date. The cast of "Valentine's Day" included Jessica Alba, Bradley Cooper, Anne Hathaway, Patrick Dempsey, Hector Elizondo, Jamie Foxx, Jennifer Garner, Topher Grace, Ashton Kutcher, Taylor Lautner, George Lopez, Queen Latifah, Julia Roberts and Emma Roberts. Depp Wants Marshall To Direct "The Thin Man" Remake

Depp Wants Marshall To Direct "The Thin Man" Remake Pirates of the Caribbean star Johnny Depp has been aggressively courting his Pirates 4 director Rob Marshall (Chicago, Memoirs of a Geisha) to direct him once again in a remake of The Thin Man at Warner Bros. It'd be a fitting follow-up to Depp's turn as the rum-soaked Captain Jack Sparrow: The famous detective novel by Dashiell Hammett centers on Nick Charles who — after marrying wealthy, young socialite Norah — gives up a career as a hard-boiled gumshoe to become a semi-professional alcoholic and full-time trophy husband. The Thin Man certainly wasn't the Philip Marlowe of its day when it was first published in 1934 — Hammett never even wrote a sequel — but it did become a hit six-film franchise at MGM (with William Powell starring as Nick Charles and Myrna Loy playing Nora Charles) and an NBC series that ran from 1957 to 1959. There's no script yet for the remake, but we're told that Depp is e

Sam Raimi To Direct "The Day of the Triffids"

Sam Raimi To Direct "The Day of the Triffids" Mandate Pictures has won the auction for The Day of the Triffids . The film will be produced by Ghost House, the partnership between Mandate, Sam Raimi and Rob Tapert. The deal is seven-figures and I've heard it's the most that Mandate has paid for a project package. Raimi wants to direct it; the original was one of his favorite films as a boy. Raimi and Tapert will board the producer roster, joining Michael Preger, Angry Films' Don Murphy and Susan Montford, and Mark Gordon, who previously worked with Raimi on A Simple Plan. The rights package includes the original scifi novel by John Wyndham , which was previously used as the basis for the 1962 film. It's classic paranoid alien invasion stuff: when a shower of meteorites lights up the sky, it creates such a gorgeous sight that most earthlings can't help but look. So 99% of the population goes blind as a result, but it gets worse. The meteorites unleash

Hellraiser Reboot On The Way

Do We Really Need To Reboot Pinhead? NEW DIRECTOR named. News here. We landed some huge news this weekend as we've confirmed that Christian E. Christiansen (say that ten times fast) is circling Dimension Films' big budget Hellraiser remake. But ultimately lost out to the Drive Angry team, as did Patrick Melton and Marcus Dunstan, who brought us the last four Saw films and The Collector .  As it was previously reported, the Victor Garcia low budget sequel, Revelations , was greenlit in order for the Weinstein Company to retain the rights (much like they did in 2005 with both Deader and Hellworld). Based on what I've heard from various people who have pitched their version of Hellraiser, the Weinsteins are looking for someone to make the franchise fitted for "teens" (super, super, super lame), thus making the director of Sony Screen Gems' The Roommate perfect for the gig. This leads beautifully into the news that the company hopes (nothing is signed) to

Sandra Bullock To Reunite With The Proposal Director

Sandra Bullock To Reunite With The Proposal Director Sandra Bullock is reuniting with the director of The Proposal , Anne Fletcher, for an untitled project. Warner Bros. has picked up the pitch, which hails from scribes Pamela Falk and Michael Ellis. Adam Shankman and Jennifer Gibgot of Offspring Entertainment are producing. Bullock is attached to star, while Fletcher will direct. Details are scarce, but the contemporary-set project is described as in the vein of the 1978 Paul Mazursky film An Unmarried Woman and Saturday Night Fever. Bullock also will executive produce with her Fortis Films partner Maggie Biggar. Offspring's Matt Smith also is executive producing. Sarah Schechter is overseeing for Warners. The acquisition comes as Bullock is in negotiations to star in the studio's outer space survival movie, Gravity , from director Alfonso Cuaron. Gravity is vying with Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close as her next movie. Choreographer-turned-director Fletcher,
