A few have tried their hand at the film. (David Lynch and Alejandro Jodorowsky) Can you talk a bit about your upcoming adaptation of Dune? I'm preparing for a long trek in the dunes... We're going to start writing in a couple weeks. It's very early [in the] process. Do you plan to infuse it with some action? I don't know. It's all about—I'm a huge Dune fan, a reader, like for 30 years; I read it when I was a teenager. I've read it 10 times maybe, so I want to stay tru

Edge of Darkness Movie Review By:Sandwichjohn

Edge of Darkness Movie Review By:Sandwichjohn The Edge of Darkness marks Mel Gibson’s return to movies. The last starring role that he had was in 2002. It will be interesting to see if his behavior since then will influence the success of this movie. I will say that we were the youngest people by far in the theater during the showing we attended. Edge of Darkness is a 2010 film adaptation of the 1985 BBC television series. Mel Gibson plays Thomas Craven, a Boston police detective, who is investigating the death of his only daughter. Bojana Novakovic plays Emma Craven, who is murdered right in front of Thomas by a shot gun blast to the chest. Before Emma is murdered we see her vomiting and her nose is bleeding, she starts to freak out telling her father there is something that she should have told him. And then Bam. The police department starts investigating the case under the assumption that Thomas was the intended target and Emma was just caught in the crossfire. As Thomas soo

Sam Raimi To Direct The Shadow?

Sam Raimi To Direct The Shadow? Following the Spider-Man 4 debacle, all eyes were on World of Warcraft as Sam Raimi's next potential gig behind the camera. But IESB are reporting that an inside source at Camp Raimi reckons the director may well opt for The Shadow, before galloping off to Azeroth. All so much hearsay of course, but maybe, just maybe, there's something in it. Raimi was already attached to The Shadow as a producer, and Warcraft isn't yet written, while Siavash Farahanl handed in the second draft of his Shadow script in the second half of last year. As a lower-rung hero - at least in terms of general moviegoer recognition - The Shadow isn't necessarily a huge undertaking, meaning Raimi could possibly bring some of his back-to-basics Drag Me to Hell approach to the material. If that was taking us back to the Evil Dead days, maybe this could hark back to Darkman. Plus the "ferocious" script that IESB describe - broken bones, meat grinders - sounds

Zachary Quinto To Play George Gershwin For Spielberg

Zachary Quinto To Play George Gershwin For Spielberg Since he dropped out of Harvey, Steven Spielberg’s first project under the reconstituted DreamWorks has been a subject of much speculation. Now I hear who's at the center of the director's biopic of George Gershwin, which DreamWorks acquired last fall. It’s Zachary Quinto -- Sylar in the NBC drama-fantasy Heroes, and Spock in the JJ Abrams-directed megapic Star Trek. Quinto will play the famed composer and pianist, who with brother Ira was responsible for more than a dozen Broadway shows before dying at 38. DreamWorks is even supplying accent and dialogue coaches for Quinto, and shooting could begin as soon as April. Doug Wright wrote the script, and Marc Platt and singer/pianist Michael Feinstein are producing. A DreamWorks insider says this is one of 3 projects Spielberg is looking at for his next piccause he's anxious to get back to work. I wouldn't be surprised if there's an announcement later this week. Ple

Joe Johnston Talks Captain America

Joe Johnston Talks Captain America That "next job" is the much-anticipated The First Avenger: Captain America, featuring the Marvel Comics superhero created by Joe Simon and Jack Kirby in 1940 for Marvel's forerunner, Timely Comics. We're in prep," Johnston says. "Rick Heinrichs is production-designing and we're set up down in Manhattan Beach [California]. It's the part of the process that I love the most," he enthuses. "We have eight or ten really talented artists, and we all just sit around all day and draw pictures and say, 'Hey, wouldn't it be cool if we could do this?' It's that phase of the production where money doesn't matter: ‘Let's put all the greatest stuff up on the wall and [then later] see what we can afford.'" The film, he says at this early stage, will begin "in 1942, 1943" during World War II. "The stuff in the ’60s and ’70s [comic books] we're sort of avoiding. We're

Syfy Updates Fairy Tales

Syfy Updates Fairy Tales Syfy is reinventing fairy tales and pop culture characters as part of its Saturday night TV movie franchise. The network is airing five titles that give a contemporary twist on a classic story, from Hansel & Gretel (years after escaping the witch in the haunted forest, Hansel returns seeking revenge) to Little Red Riding Hood (a descendant of Little Red discovers her family secretly hunts werewolves). "It's exciting to take a treasured brand and put our own sideways spin on it," said Thomas Vitale, executive vp programming and original movies at Syfy. "By turning familiar timeless stories inside out, we're creating an entertaining new genre for our popular Saturday night movie franchise." The series is partly inspired by the network's mandate to find projects with broader appeal that began in earnest last year with the network's rebranding from Sci Fi to Syfy. Syfy's Saturday movies continue to be one of the last bast

Book Of Eli Movie Review #2 By:Windy

Book Of Eli Movie Review #2 By:Windy Windy had a busy week and took the time to give us another great review. Looks like we didn't differ much on our separate reviews of this film. Please stop by her site and let her know how much u enjoy her reviews. In seeing the previews, one might call The Book of Eli “The Road, with Action”. After reading Cormac McCarthy’s post-apocalyptic book, “The Road”, there was no doubt this film would have a similar backdrop. Eli, terrifically played by Denzel Washington, is a loner in a wild west inspired post natural-disaster world where one must be tough mentally and physically to survive. Washington displays the perfect calm yet bad-ass attitude that we’ve come to expect from his action roles. Without skipping a beat, he rids derelicts of their appendages, lives and pride at the same time. You’re not quite sure where he is going or what his mission is in the beginning of the film, but you quickly understand his resolve to accomplish his missio
