Jennifer Lawrence is in discussions to star in the epic love story The Ends of the Earth , which the Weinstein Co. said Monday it will finance and distribute. TWC has acquired worldwide rights from Escape Artists, which will produce the film. The screenplay, based on true events and written by Chris Terrio (Argo), concerns a powerful oil tycoon, Ernest Marland, who loses everything after a controversial love affair with his adopted daughter Lydie, the role that Lawrence would play. "Jennifer Lawrence shows the skill of a seasoned veteran in everything she does, and we're thrilled to be working with her again," TWC co-chairman Harvey Weinstein said of the actress, who also stars in TWC's upcoming The Silver Linings Playbook. The clock is ticking for 20th Century Fox to put its DAREDEVIL reboot into production before character rights revert to Marvel — but Fox chairman Tom Rothman and Marvel brass have been talking about a tradeoff that would allow the comicbook franchise to remain at Fox past its Oct. 10 deadline, report Variety's Jeff Sneider, Rachel Abrams and Marc Graser. One reason for the backroom dealings: Fox is in discussions with Joe Carnahan to direct what’s been described as a “ Frank Miller-esque, hardcore 70s thriller ” take on blind Hell’s Kitchen superhero Matt Murdock — a vision that would deviate from Disney/Marvel’s family-friendly tone. Carnahan has yet to receive an official offer, though multiple sources tell Variety that he’s the choice. Joe Manganiello is in negotiations to join Arnold Schwarzenegger in Breacher, the action thriller which David Ayer is directing for QED International. The script, written by Skip Woods (Swordfish), follows 10 DEA agents who pull off a heist during an enforcement operation, then start dying one by one. Manganielo will join Sam Worthington, Terrence Howard and House of Lies actress Dawn Olivieri as members of the DEA team. His character, named Grinder, discovers a conscience and attempts to contact the police. Open Road is domestically distributing the movie, which is eying an October start in Atlanta. Bill Block, Paul Hanson, Joe Roth and Palek Patel are producing with Albert S. Ruddy. Manganiello, who plays Alcide Herveaux on HBO’s True Blood, is mostly known for his TV work but thanks his appearance in Steven Soderbergh’s Magic Mike is enjoying a feature bounce. FX is getting into business with Dr. Dre . The cable network has inked a script-development deal with the music mogul and writer Sidney Quashi for a drama pilot. The one-hour project, set in present-day Los Angeles, explores both the music business and crime business. Quashi will be billed as both the creator and executive producer of the drama, with Dre serving as an EP. Daniel Schnider will co-executive producer for Dre’s Crucial TV, along with co-EP Brad Bertner. Crucial Films was launched in 2007 with a first-look deal at New Line. Dre's label, Aftermath Entertainment, launched 11 years earlier and has showcased such talent as Eminem, 50 Cent, The Game and his newest discovery Kendrick Lamar. He began his career as a member of seminal gangsta rap group N.W.A and continued as a producer and solo artist. The remake of Total Recall (deemed Total Recall 2012) is upon us, meeting with a frenzy of interest while getting slammed by the critics. But we at SandwichJohn  ( MattInRC ) take a more disciplined approach, and have found many aspects of the new version that kick ass over the original. We think there are clear reasons why TR2012 makes the original its little bitch. What are they? Let's find out. No Mars: Frankly, the idea that Arnold would go to the Red Planet, stick his fingers in some sort of Polish Vulcan arrangement, and suddenly turn the planet into Earth 2 was hard to justify when it came out. Now that we actually know the difficulty of sending people to Mars, the idea is even more wacky. The mutants were silly, and the idea that Arnold and Rachel Ticotin could survive for any longer than 2 seconds without air was ridiculous.
