Sony Pictures has released the official plot synopsis for this summer's The Amazing Spider-Man . What's Peter Parker's main objective? It's not who or what you think. A couple of weeks ago, we reported that Ethan Hawke planned to star in James DeMonaco’s sci-fi thriller Vigilandia . Now he’ll have some company, because Lena Headey has been cast in the female lead. As for what the film is about, we still can’t say. Not because we’re being difficult, but because DeMonaco and his producers are keeping the details strictly under wraps for now. What we do know is this: the film will be very low budget, with Variety describing it as somewhere around the level of Insidious. That's not shocking, since that film’s producer Jason Blum is also helping to get this one made. The Scott Z. Burns scripted film is being financed by Megan Ellison’s Annapurna Pictures, with production to start in April in New York on a thriller that has a budget in the $30 million range. Lorenzo di Bonaventura is producing with Greg Jacobs and Burns. Open Road recently signed on to distribute in the U.S. The film is a potboiler in the Jagged Edge-Basic Instinct mold, and Zeta-Jones will play Dr. Erica Siebert. The Academy announced the nominations for the 84th annual Academy Awards on Tuesday. Nominees were announced by Jennifer Lawrence and Tom Sherak, president of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences. Helmer James Wan and New Line have selected Vera Farmiga and Patrick Wilson to star in horror pic " The Conjuring ." The two thesps are in final negotiations to star and Wan is on board to direct. Chad and Carey Hayes sold the original pitch. The project is inspired by the true-life story of the Perron family, who claimed they "lived among the dead" in the 1970s as spirits both friendly and sinister inhabited their Rhode Island farmhouse. Wilson's casting marks a reteaming with Wan, who directed him in the low-budget horror thriller " Insidious ," which also revolved a family living in a haunted house. Wilson was most recently seen in Paramount's "Young Adult." Farmiga is also no stranger to the horror genre, having starred in the Warner Bros. pic " Orphan ."
