Sandra Bullock Makes Box Office History

Sandra Bullock Makes Box Office History Sandra Bullock rang in the new year making box office history. Some time over the weekend, Bullock starrer "The Blind Side" became the first pic in history driven solely by a top female star to jump the $200 million mark at the domestic B.O. To be precise, the film finished the frame with a cume of $208.5 million in its seventh week in release. Over the weekend, it rose a remarkable 10% over the previous week, and it's still got plenty of life left, according to Warner Bros. prexy of domestic distribution Dan Fellman. "Blind Side" was fully financed and produced by Alcon Entertainment. The project was brought in by Molly Smith, daughter of Alcon backer Fred Smith, founder of FedEx. It's hard to believe, but none of the previous films in which Bullock had top solo billing had reached $200 million, nor have any of the solo starring efforts of the likes of Julia Roberts, Meryl Streep, Angelina Jolie or Reese Witherspoon. ...

Julie Benz Moves Into Wisteria Lane. Newest Desperate Housewives Cast Member

Julie Benz Moves Into Wisteria Lane. Newest Desperate Housewives Cast Member Now I finally have a reason to watch the show after all these years. Julie Benz has bounced back from her shocking Dexter departure with a major role on Desperate Housewives. Sources confirm to me exclusively that Benz — whose character, Rita, succumbed to the most horrific bubble bath in television history in last month’s Dexter finale — has been cast in the recurring role of Debbie, a stripper with a heart of gold and a Masters degree in education. When Susan offers her the chance to transition into a more legitimate career, Deb jumps at it. Benz is booked for at least three episodes, the first of which is scheduled to air in February. Think she’ll fit in on Wisteria Lane? Please Leave A Comment- Source- EW

Kesha's "TiK ToK" Sets Female Download Record Rookie pop singer Ke$ha's "TiK ToK" shifted 610,000 digital tracks for the week ending December 27, according to Nielsen SoundScan. That's the highest weekly sum by a female artist since tracking began in 2003, and the second-best overall after Flo Rida's "Right Round" sold 636,000 this past February. Coincidentally, Ke$ha was an uncredited singer on the track. TiK ToK" eclipsed the female mark set by Lady Gaga with "Just Dance" exactly a year ago. Ke$ha's hefty download sum will ensure "TiK ToK's" place atop the Billboard Hot 100 singles chart for a second week when that chart is released Thursday. The song previews her debut album "Animal," which is set to hit stores on January 5. Please Leave A Comment- Source- Yahoo

Twilight "Eclipse" No Test Screenings According To Summit

Twilight "Eclipse" No Test Screenings According To Summit After news spread that Summit Entertainment was holding "The Twilight Saga: Eclipse" test screenings over the weekend, testimonials began to appear online from fans who had the chance to see the flick. The only problem? There was no test screening, so the testimonials were anything but accurate. A source close to the "Eclipse" production told GossipCop.com that rumors of the screening are "absolutely not true." Also, any testimonials being published online on sites like Alex's Memories are equally untrue. The source said specifics around any trailers and screenings for the flick have yet to be announced. "There is absolutely no merit to this claim," a Summit Entertainment rep confirmed to MTV News about reports of the screenings. "We noticed it over the holiday on multiple message boards and sites, and it appears that some of this was spam." Please Leave A Comment- ...

NBC's "Heroes" Most-Pirated TV Show Of 2009

NBC's "Heroes" Most-Pirated TV Show Of 2009 Last year, pirates were obsessed with good vs. evil, making NBC's "Heroes" the most-pirated TV show of 2009. This year, the buzz is that the show may be on the verge of cancellation thanks to dwindling ratings (it averages about 6 million viewers a week, down from nearly 14 million when the show first premiered in 2006). But "Heroes' continues to be a juggernaut in online piracy. According to Torrentfreak, "Heroes" was downloaded 6.58 million times in 2009, topping the year's most-pirated list. The only other show in the top 10 that boasts fewer weekly viewers than total illegal sharers is Showtime's "Dexter," with about 2.3 million viewers and 2.78 million pirated downloads. (And Showtime is a pay cable service, of course.) Here's the full list: 1. "Heroes" (NBC) 2. "Lost" (ABC) 3. "Prison Break" (Fox) 4. "Dexter" (Showtime) 5. ...

The Thing Prequel To Begin Filming In March

The Thing Prequel To Begin Filming In March The prequel to John Carpenter’s classic horror film The Thing is going to start shooting in March! I have been pretty excited about seeing the potential that his film has. I hope it is realized in a way that lives up to the awesome standards of the original, which is still a freakin' great movie! The Thing prequel is being set up at Universal Pictures and is being directed by a commercial director named Matthijis van Heijiningen Jr. This prequel will dive into the story of how this alien being ended up crashing near the Norwegian camp. The original script was written by Ronald D. Moore and then Eric Heisserer stepped in to do some major re-writes. In an interview back in August he gave a little info on what he and the director did to construct the story. It's a really fascinating way to construct a story because were doing it by autopsy, by examining very, very closely everything we know about the Norwegian camp and about the eve...

Things Movie Theaters Don't Want You To Know

Things Movie Theaters Don't Want You To Know 1. "We're obsolete? No way!" Hard to believe, but movie theaters have been holding their own, despite intense competition from cable, the Internet and other media. After a 2005 slump, box office revenue increased over the past few years, and it's likely 2009 will have set a new record. But that growth is due largely to inflation; the number of tickets bought has stayed close to 1.4 billion since 2005, while the average ticket price has climbed from $6.41 to $7.46. Looking for new ways to make money, theaters are exploring options like more in-house advertising and expanded concessions. But the biggest potential lies in digital technology and the flexibility it affords programming. For starters, events like live opera or college bowl games can draw 75 percent capacity on slow days, when theaters are usually "lucky to fill 10 percent of their seats," says Richard Herring, consultant for Davidson Theaters in Virg...
