Blackfilm.com has confirmed the role Derek Luke will have in the upcoming Marvel film, Captain America . He will be playing Gabe Jones , who was also known for carrying his trumpet into battle and an original member of the elite Howling Commandos combat squad of World War II. Gabriel "Gabe" Jones was born in New York City. He is an original member of the fictional, elite Howling Commandos combat squad of World War II, and the first African-American to serve in an integrated unit. (The U.S. Armed Forces, in real life, were not integrated until 1948, by executive order of President Harry S Truman.) He is one of the close confidantes of Nick Fury , his sergeant and later the head of the international espionage organization S.H.I.E.L.D ., which Jones joined at some unspecified point after the war. The Columbia Pictures project is being produced by the team behind “The Social Network.” Tom Hanks is attached to star as true-life high-seas hero Capt. Richard Phillips in Columbia Pictures' account of the international incident of an American ship captured by Somali pirates. The project, with a script by Billy Ray, is being produced by Scott Rudin, Michael DeLuca, Kevin Spacey and Dana Brunetti, the team behind The Social Network. Columbia picked up the life rights to Phillips, as well as his book A Captain's Duty , in spring 2009. The goal is to retell the story of the captain of the trading vessel Maersk Alabama who, in order to save his crew, surrendered himself to Somali pirates after his ship was hijacked. The standoff, which commanded worldwide attention, tested the strength of Phillips and his crew as well as the resolve of the Navy commanders and President Barack Obama to bring Phillips home alive. David Slade  (The Twilight Saga: Eclipse) is in talks to develop and direct the new Daredevil movie, being made by 20th Century Fox and Regency. Peter Chernin's Chernin Entertainment will produce. The so-far untitled project has no writer at this stage although the studio says it is aiming to make a movie that continues the story begun by the 2003 Ben Affleck movie. Affleck, however, is not involved in the new project. As the DD project is still in the development stage, Slade’s next project is likely to the Phoenix Pictures’ period horror The Last Voyage of the Demeter . Battle: Los Angeles Movie Review By: SandwichJohn Going into the film I really didn't know much about it other than what I had seen in the trailers and what I know of the urban legend of the Battle of Los Angeles . The one thing I have to warn you about is the shaky camera work that is used in the film. So you have been warned. From the start of this movie I knew I was going to enjoy it. Once all the trailers are done being shown, the film starts and we are right in the Battle. We see that some kind of strange force has been taking over the world and their last stop on the ride is Los Angles. We are introduced to U.S. Marine Staff Sergeant Michael Nantz played by Aaron Eckhart . The Staff Sergeant planned on turning in his paper after serving his 20 for his county. Only if life was perfect. In the background on the TV you can see the damage this strange force is causing the world. Battle: Los Angeles raked in $35.6 million on approximately 4,700 screens at 3,417 locations, boasting initial attendance that was a bit less than Black Hawk Down and Starship Troopers but slightly ahead of The Day the Earth Stood Still (2008). Its gross, though, was much greater than the entire run of the last Los Angeles-set, alien invasion movie Skyline, but that picture's abject failure was an aberration of the sub-genre, not the norm. Ridley Scott and 20th Century Fox have tapped Logan Marshall-Green to play a lead role in Prometheus , the science fiction film that Scott next directs. Marshall-Green will play the role of Holloway , a crewman on the space ship and the love interest for the character played by Noomi Rapace . Rapace, the Girl with the Dragon Tattoo star, was the first castmember set by Scott. Marshall-Green most recently was seen in Devil and Brooklyn's Finest , and did stints on The O.C. and 24. He's repped by 3 Arts and Gersh. This was a role that a lot of young actors chased, and who wouldn't want to be involved in Scott's first sci-fi foray since Alien and Blade Runner? Culled from the forthcoming DVD and Blu-Ray , it's a gap-bridging exercise filling in what happened at ENCOM in the years between the original film and Legacy, and charting the activities of the underground Flynn Lives movement. David Hoberman and Todd Lieberman, riding high as part of the producing team behind the Oscar-winning boxing movie The Fighter , are attached as producers, while Morgan Foehl is attached as the writer. Crosshair is about a former CIA assassin who "faces his most dangerous enemy ever -- himself."
