KILLING THEM SOFTLY entertains us softly and surely. It speaks to us fans of Tarantino and Guy Ritchie’s crime comedies. Brad Pitt is perfect as hitman Jackie Cogan who doesn’t understand how some people do things, who doesn’t understand why his hitman friend becomes unreliable, but Cogan gets the job done… Based on George V. The Sopranos star James Gandolfini is a step closer to returning to HBO‘s drama lineup with a starring role in the network’s Criminal Justice. HBO has given a pilot order to the drama project, written by Oscar nominee Richard Price (The Color Of Money) and to be directed by Oscar-wining writer Steven Zaillian (Schindler’s List). Criminal Justice is a New York-set crime drama loosely based on the acclaimed 2008 BBC series of the same name created by Peter Moffat. Joining the ensemble cast led by Gandolfini are Rizwan Ahmed, Bill Camp, Peyman Moadi and Poorna Jagannathan . The original series consisted of two five-episode seasons, each chronicling the journey of a person charged with murder through the justice system, and each featuring new characters and cast. Olivia Wilde and Steve Buscemi are in talks to join Burt Wonderstone , New Line’s magician comedy starring Steve Carell . Jim Carrey and James Gandolfini are already in negotiations to join the cast. The project is set in the world of rival Las Vegas magicians. Carell is a more traditional magic man who is dethroned by a hipper illusionist doing dangerous tricks and breaks up with his partner then must find a way to rediscover his love for magic. Carrey is playing the magician who represents the new face of magic while Gandolfini will be an owner of a casino. Wilde will play Carell’s love interest, who at first is his assistant but later works for Carrey.  Buscemi will play Carell’s longtime friend and partner who quits the act. The movie is scheduled to go before cameras in January. Veteran TV director Don Scardino is making his feature debut on the project, which is being produced by Chris Bender and J.C. Ray Liotta is the most recent actor to join the cast of the crime thriller Cogan's Trade . Brad Pitt, James Gandolfini, Javier Bardem, Sam Rockwell, Casey Affleck, Mark Ruffalo, Vincent Curatola and Richard Jenkins also star in writer-director Andrew Dominik's adaptation of the 1974 George V. Higgins novel. Pitt's Jackie Cogan is a professional enforcer who must investigate a heist that took place during a high-stakes poker game under protection of the mob. Liotta will play Mark "Markie" Trattman , the unfortunate hustler who runs the game in a motel room and finds things only going downhill from there.
