Turbo Blu-ray Review By: MattInRC Turbo's fast moves and beautiful animation look and sound great in its home release, but it leaves us wanting more. DreamWorks' newest animated film Turbo is proof positive of a growing trend for the genre: the production of slick-looking yet mindless pap. Gone are the days when Disney ruled with its films filled with hope AND a well-crafted message. And while Turbo isn't terrible, there's too many characters who just aren't as funny or profound as they could have been. Its arrival onto Blu-ray comes with reference quality audio and video, but it doesn't change our malaise. As we mentioned in our year-end article, 2012 brought us several terrific films throughout the year , including several; animated ones that made it to this year's Oscars. Bolstered by long lines and positive reviews, animated films are enjoying a resurgence among filmgoers. With an animated film based on the Troll doll toy franchise already in development, DreamWorks Animation has gone one step further and bought the entire brand, and has tapped American Girl veteran Shawn Dennis to oversee the brand for the toon studio. Deal with the Dam Family and Dam Things of Denmark now makes DreamWorks Animation the exclusive worldwide licensor of merchandise rights for the Trolls, except for Scandanavia, the birthplace of the characters, where Dam Things will remain the licensor. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed. DWA first brokered the film rights for a Trolls movie in 2010.
