BOB MARLEY: ONE LOVE Featurette

TV Review: The Leftovers “B.J. and the A.C.” By: Brandon Wolfe

TV Review: The Leftovers “B.J. and the A.C.” By: Brandon Wolfe It might be time to call it with ‘The Leftovers’. After four installments, the HBO show is still struggling to locate its pulse. The premise at the core of the series remains spooky and promising, but the series itself is fumbling to tell stories that build off that premise in any meaningful or compelling way. With its cast of stiffs, lifeless narrative and hokey symbolism, ‘The Leftovers’ is so deep in the ground right now that it’s hard to imagine it pulling itself out. Kevin is imploring Guilty Remnant lieutenant Patti (Ann Dowd) to avoid crashing a Christmas dance at the local high school, but as with all interactions with the GR, it’s literally like talking to a brick wall, if the brick wall chain-smoked and made smarmy faces. But soon Kevin’s attention is focused on something much more pressing: the baby Jesus doll from the town’s nativity scene has been swiped and Kevin has been tasked with locating it, m

TV Review: The Leftovers “Two Boats and a Helicopter”

TV Review: The Leftovers “Two Boats and a Helicopter” By: Brandon Wolfe With “ Two Boats and a Helicopter ”, ‘The Leftovers’ moves into the weekly-spotlight motif that served Damon Lindelof so well on ‘Lost’. Where the first two episodes cast a wide net to set up the entire world and cast, this entry fixates solely on Matt Jamison ( Christopher Eccleston ), the tormented reverend whom we’ve only met in passing thus far. Matt has a very specific reaction to the Departure. He is hell-bent on proving to the public that this wasn’t the Rapture, as many believe, since he’s keen to point out that many of those who were taken on October 14th were demonstrably bad people. Matt publishes a newsletter where he documents the crimes and sordid deeds of the departed, a practice that only stirs up ill will in people, and occasionally results in Matt taking a beating from the angry relatives of those whose sins he exposes. We also learn that Matt’s wife was critically injured on that fateful day

TV Review: The Leftovers “Penguin One, Us Zero”

TV Review: The Leftovers “Penguin One, Us Zero” By: Brandon Wolfe The pilot episode of ‘ The Leftovers ’ proved to be an exceptionally divisive one. While some were instantly taken with its enigmatic debut, many others found it confoundingly vague. I fell somewhere in the middle, enticed by the eeriness of its post-Rapture (or is it?) world, yet recognizing that many blank spots still needed to be filled in. The second episode finds me shifting my position nearer to the frustrated portion of the viewing audience. As ‘The Leftovers’ begins to color in its world, which in itself is interesting on a conceptual level, the feeling starting to spring up is that maybe the handful of characters designated for us to follow is simply not interesting enough to match it. Take Liv Tyler’s Meg Abbott, for instance. Last week, she was stalked by the Guilty Remnant cult and, without explanation, had opted to join up with them by episode’s end. This week, she is put through an orientation t

TV Review: The Leftovers "Pilot"

TV Review: The Leftovers "Pilot" By: Brandon Wolfe On a day like any other, October 14, 2% of the world’s population vanishes into thin air. It appears to be an event akin to the Rapture, except those who were taken appear to have been done so indiscriminately. Three years later, the world is still reeling from the event. Neither the religious nor the science communities can quite explain what happened or why. As people continue to attempt to come to grips with their losses, a couple of mysterious cults have popped up, including the GR (Guilty Remnant), a silent, chain-smoking group dressed all in white whose motives are unclear, but who seem intent on reminding the rest of the world of the futility of mourning. This is the grabber of a premise that drives HBO’s ‘ The Leftovers ’ from ‘ Lost ’ creator Damon Lindelof, based on the novel by Tom Perotta (who is also onboard as producer and co-writer). The pilot episode of ‘ The Leftovers ’ introduces a multitude of ch

Damon Lindelof's HBO Show "The Leftovers" Trailer

Damon Lindelof's HBO drama The Leftovers has its first full-length trailer. Bits and pieces have been doled out about the series via atmospheric teasers, but the latest footage -- debuting before Sunday's Game of Thrones -- offers a more complete look at the postapocalyptic series. Based on the Tom Perrotta novel, The Leftovers begins three years after 2 percent of the Earth's population disappears without explanation (aka the Rapture ) and focuses on the people who didn't make the cut, living in a changed world. Watch the trailer after the Jump... "It's time again for the world to mourn the departed," the trailer opens as the remaining inhabitants on Earth have settled into a lazy haze years later, with many trying to accept that they will never return. The town of Mapleton even holds a parade in remembrance of the event and unveils a new statue in its honor. "We still wonder where they went and why," becomes the town's dilemm

Hugh Laurie In Talks To Star In Tomorrowland

Hugh Laurie is in negotiations to play the villain in Tomorrowland , Disney’s top secret sci-fi project starring George Clooney and being directed by Brad Bird . The plot of the movie project, which until a couple of weeks ago was being called 1952 , is under lock and key, though it has been described as being in the vein of Close Encounters of the Third Kind, Steven Spielberg’s 1978 movie about a man searching for extra-terrestrials on Earth. All that is known about Laurie’s character is that he serves as the movie’s antagonist. Lost co-creator Damon Lindelof co-wrote the script with Jeff Jensen, an editor at Entertainment Weekly. The pedigree of Bird and Lindelof, their standing in the geek community and the force field of secrecy enveloping the project have raised interest in Tomorrowland. Laurie is best known for his Emmy-nominated starring role as the brilliant but cold title character in Fox's House M.D. which ran from 2004-12. The show kept him busy, but he d

Lost's Damon Lindelof Getting Paid!

In its latest attempt to hatch a large-scale film that can play to a family audience, Disney has made a seven-figure deal with screenwriter and Lost exec producer Damon Lindelof to write and produce an original large-scale science fiction feature film. Other than the fact that the project has a working title of 1952 , I couldn't pry plot details out of anybody. I'm not sure if the title connotes a period the film is set in, or if it is a Lost reference. I've also heard that this project isn't just being conceived for movies only, but that it has multiple platform aspirations. The project came out of a series of meetings that Lindelof had with Disney's production president Sean Bailey and senior exec Brigham Taylor, and it's the first film that Lindelof is producing from the ground up. Since ending the run of Lost and serving as one of the show's architects all the way through, Lindelof has been on fire as a screenwriter. He teamed with Alex Kurtzman an

Alien Prequel Retitled Prometheus

The Alien prequel is dead and a new Ridley Scott project has been reborn. Fox has announced that instead of making a much-talked about Alien movie, the project has been reconfigured as an original sci-fi movie, titled Prometheus , with Scott still at the helm and with Noomi Rapace to star. Showing how serious it is about the movie, Fox has set a March 9, 2012 release date. Damon Lindelof is working together with Scott on the new script, which was originally written by Jon Spaihts and based on an idea by Scott. It was under Lindelof that the project morphed into something more original. “While Alien was indeed the jumping off point for this project, out of the creative process evolved a new, grand mythology and universe in which this original story takes place,” said Scott in a statement. “The keen fan will recognize strands of Alien's DNA, so to speak, but the ideas tackled in this film are unique, large and provocative. I couldn't be more pleased to have found the s

Natalie Portman Has The Upper Hand For Lead Role In Upcoming Alien Prequel

Natalie Portman Has The Upper Hand For Lead Role In Upcoming Alien Prequel Vulture just got word: Lost co-creator Damon Lindelof turned in his new draft of the screenplay for Ridley Scott's Alien prequel on Saturday, and 20th Century Fox execs are very pleased with it indeed! We’re told all involved parties have been made to sign nondisclosure agreements about the plot, but our spies have been able to glean several interesting nuggets about the project, which is set roughly 35 years before Scott’s dystopic classic. Here's what we know ... One reason Fox execs are so thrilled with Lindelof’s Alien draft is that, not only is it creatively engaging, but it adds no expensive "set pieces" — production-speak for elaborate, effects-heavy action sequences that add millions to the cost of a film — to the movie. 20th Century Fox and Scott have been wrangling over the director’s proposed budget. One insider familiar with the situation puts Scott’s suggested budget at bet

Star Trek Sequel To Be Compared To The Dark Knight

Star Trek Sequel To Be Compared To The Dark Knight Star Trek Dos, aka, Star Trek 2 , isn't set to hit theaters until 2012. But E! News caught up with producer Damon Lindelof (you know, cocreator of a little show called Lost) at a pre-Emmys party, and he spilled some insights into what's driving the filmmakers as they work on the sequel. Watch the interview after the Jump.. "We're looking at a movie like The Dark Knight, which went one step beyond Batman Begins," Lindelof said. "It was really about something, and at the same time it was a superhero movie. We don't want to abandon all the things that made the first movie work...but we also really want the movie to thematically resonate." Please Leave A Comment- Source- Eonline

Damon Lindelof Talks Lost

Damon Lindelof Talks Lost Lost has ended and there are so may questions that are still unanswered. The creators of Lost Damon Lindelof and Carlton Cuse are going on a media black-out for awhile and have chosen not to talk about the show or the finale. You can read Lindelof’s final thoughts below: From all of us who made the show, we really hope that you don’t feel it was a waste of your time. We hope that you spent the entire night not just thinking about the finale on a story level, but that you were emotionally affected by it. There are two feelings that you feel when you watch the ending of a television show. The first is the feeling that you have of just understanding that the show is over and the second is what your response is to actually what’s happening on the screen. What I liked about the Soprano’s finale was that it changed the experience because when Chase cut to black, suddenly that feeling of “the show’s over” was replaced by “is my cable out?” – he kind of chang

Lost Finale Gets An Extra 30 Minutes

Lost Finale Gets An Extra 30 Minutes The producers of ABC's hit drama have shot so much crucial material for the show's hugely anticipated series finale that the network has agreed to extend the last episode by an extra half-hour. When the " Lost" finale airs on Sunday, May 23 , the episode will run from 9 p.m.-11:30 p.m. The overrun will push back local news, with the previously announced "Jimmy Kimmel Live: Aloha to Lost" post-finale special now airing at 12:05 a.m. ABC is expected to announce the plan on tonight's episode of Kimmel. Executive producers Carlton Cuse and Damon Lindelof just completed postproduction on the finale -- titled "The End" -- on Monday night. Both sent out identical tweets: "We're done. Amen." Lindelof recently told THR that the crew built all-new sets for the finale and promised the ending would prompt more questions. The supersizing of the finale is the latest adjustment to what might as well

Jacob's Arch-Rival Returns To "Lost"

Jacob's Arch-Rival Returns To "Lost" With "Lost" fans eager for answers in the final season of the ABC drama, at least one of the show's mystery may get resolved: Who is Jacob's nemesis? Titus Welliver, who played a mysterious character in Season 5, is set to reprise his role in the second part of "Lost's" sixth season, which premieres Feb. 2. Jacob's nemesis (aka Man in Black), who last appeared in Season 5's finale, is an inhabitant of the Island who had spent a century looking for ways to kill Jacob (Mark Pellegrino) until finally succeeding in 2007 by assuming the appearance of the dead John Locke (Terry O'Quinn) and persuading Benjamin Linus (Michael Emerson) to stab Jacob. The Man is Black's name, identity, motives, backstory and bone of contention with Jacob were never revealed, leading to a flurry of speculation among "Lost" fans about who he really is. A number of castaways will be returning to the island
